Purpose:

We are currently seeking a Digital Communications Associate that will report directly to the Communications Manager. The Digital Communications Associate will support the earned media, online media, internal, and external communications needs of the largest union at the University of California. Under the supervision of the Communications Manager, they will work to support a fast growing and dynamic communications operation—including executing the organization’s digital content and delivery, including but not limited to social media channels and electronic communications, developing and implementing a proactive digital communications strategy to increase the union’s social media presence to advance 3299’s brand and reputation. This is a great opportunity for an eager communications professional with a commitment to social justice and working families.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Under the direction of the Communications Manager, the Digital Communications Associate will:

  • Develop digital engagement strategies to support 3299’s strategic plan and programs.
  • Provide training, guidance, and support to local staff, members, and leaders to develop social media and digital engagement plans/strategies.
  • Work with the Communications team to develop an annual editorial calendar to help develop a proactive communications strategy.
  • Work with the Communications team to develop and place digital and social media ads to support 3299’s strategic goals.
  • Be responsible for content updates, structural changes and aesthetic design of website, landing pages, and campaign microsites.
  • Work with content editors and key stakeholders across the association to ensure that online content reflects 3299’s goals and vision.
  • Travel throughout the state of California to support 3299 members, leaders and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications and Skills Include:

  • 1-3 years social and digital media experience in a professional capacity.
  • Photography, video/audio editing, and/or graphic design skills are a plus.
  • Extensive experience with online organizing and social media technology.
  • Knowledge of the latest social media trends, with an ability to identify new trends, platforms, ideas and campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experience with web and graphic design platforms and basic design skills for electronic and print publications and social media.
  • Experience with elevating digital presence through search engine optimization.
  • Experience developing and placing social media and digital ads to amplify organizational and campaign messaging.
  • Proficiency in the use of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite.
  • Knowledge of the labor movement, including principles of union organizing and collective bargaining.
  • Ability to quickly synthesize and distill large quantities of complex policy and/or issue related information.
  • Experience with online organizing and social media technology.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Sound political judgment.
  • Bi-lingual, Spanish/Cantonese/Tagalog/English is preferred.

Salary: $72,522.33 - $80,210.10
