About Us: The Disability Culture Lab (DCL) is a nonprofit disability media and narrative lab with a mission to shift the narrative on disability from fear and pity to solidarity and liberation, and move the needle on ableism from indifference to action. We believe in a cross-disability and cross-movement approach to our work, which means we believe every issue is a disability issue, and disability is key to every social justice issue.
The Job: The Program Manager will manage the Disability Source program, alongside our Managing Director and Program Director – as well as lead our media relations and booking programs. Disability Source is a new effort to map disabled experts across social movements and issue areas and ensure that bookers, producers, reporters, and cultural movers book top disabled experts in key news and cultural moments that impact our lives. Nothing about us without us – whether it’s a story on climate or transit, global health or abortion, immigration or racial justice, care or housing.
The Program Manager will have strong experience in media relations and booking – including securing media coverage via regional and national outlets across print, tv, and radio. DCL is a small team, so the Program Manager will have the opportunity to support media relations across DCL programs from our fellows to our narrative change hub and our consulting work. This is an early- to mid-career level communications job that is about half media relations, one quarter program development, and one quarter administrative support.
We are committed to a fair hiring process. We encourage and invite candidates whose identities align with the audience we serve. This role is open to all candidates who are authorized for United States employment.
We need you to have:
- 3 to 5+ years of experience in media relations, journalism, social justice communications, public relations.

- Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work efficiently in a virtual setting.
- Desire and ability to work collaboratively with a team that is inclusive, diverse, and remote.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Proteus Fund, Disability Culture Lab, and Disability Culture Lab Action as social justice organizations.
- Demonstrated commitment to the liberation of disabled people, immigrant communities, Indigenous people, Black people, LGBTQIA2S+ people, people of color, Muslim people, religious minorities, and folks at the intersections of all of the above.
