Who We Are
17A is a new type of management consulting firm. We come from places like McKinsey, Palantir, JP Morgan Philanthropies, and venture-backed healthcare startups, and we share a common goal: improving the quality of government and social services. We believe trust in government is continuously built and earned through strong service delivery.
We have a dynamic core team and partner with consultants — known internally as Project-Based Team Members — to bring the best combination of expertise to our work. Our team’s skills span management consulting, technology and analytics, and public service. If you spent the early part of your career at a top consulting or professional-services firm and then cut your teeth in a fast-moving venture or startup environment, and you’re ready to point those skills at something with direct civic impact, 17A is for you.
The Opportunit

.Most growing firms scale internal IT by adding tickets, tools, and headcount. We want to do the opposite: use the best available AI and automation to handle the bulk of internal support and operational toil, so a small, sharp team can move fast without friction. This is a high-impact individual-contributor role with cross-functional reach. You’ll own our internal technology strategy and — more importantly — design the systems and AI agents that keep the whole team running
.
What You’ll
DoThis role blends builder and operator. We need someone who gets excited about designing AI-driven systems that resolve most support and ops needs automatically — and who will still roll up their sleeves for the edge cases the machines can't (yet) handle. We need someone who gets excited about building AI-driven systems that resolve most support and ops needs automatically — and who will still roll up their sleeves for the edge cases the machines can’t (yet) handle. You’ll decide what to automate, what to keep human, and where the best AI tools actually earn their keep. As we grow, you may manage a small support team or an external vendor, but your first instinct should be to design a system before adding a perso
