Healthcare Data Architecture Consultant [Hybrid - Midwest USA]
17A is a new kind of management consulting firm. We come from places like McKinsey, Palantir, JPMorgan Philanthropies, and venture-backed healthcare startups, united by one goal: improving the quality of government and social services.
We're building out a team for a multi-year state healthcare transformation program in the Midwest, and we're looking for a mid-level healthcare consultant from a top-tier firm to help lead it. If that's you, we'd love to connect.
What this work looks like:
- Playing an oversight role across program governance, Medicaid policy, and vendor procurement/contracting for a state agency's rural healthcare transformation effort
- Supporting a state CIO's vision to build a shared health information utility — so a person's records travel with them across the state
- Managing across multiple contracted vendors, translating complex technical builds into a project plan that actually reflects what's being built
- Pressure-testing technical architecture and asking the right questions to keep delivery on track — you don't need to be the technical SME, but you do need to understand data lakes and system builds well enough to hold vendors accountable
- Bringing consulting-grade client polish — clear communication, sharp materials — to a program navigating real ambiguity (this is a newer client relationship, so comfort with evolving leadership and scope is key)
You might be a fit if you:
- Have 2-5 years of top-tier management consulting experience
- Have Medicaid, health coverage, or state-agency technology experience — a plus, not a requirement
- Are comfortable managing complex, multi-vendor PMO structures
- Are motivated by public-service impact as much as by the work itself
- Are comfortable with project-based engagements — an initial 3-4 month scope with strong likelihood of extension, ideally toward a ~1 year commitment
- Bring the rigor of a top consulting environment without the rigidity
Location: Hybrid, U.S.-based (Weekly co-location in the Midwest required)
Compensation: Compensation for this role will be comparable to top-tier management consulting firm rate to commensurate with experience.
