JOB SUMMARY AND KEY PRIORITIES:

Active Minds is seeking a skilled and dedicated “youth first” Program Associate, K-12 Leadership. This important role will manage programmatic and administrative components of Active Minds’ K-12 Initiatives that impact and empower youth to advocate and mobilize for their own mental health and the wellness of their broader communities. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Student Leadership, the Program Associate will manage program outreach and communications directly with youth who engage in Active Minds K-12 Initiatives programs, event logistics and planning, track program deliverables, and help the team ensure the quality and fidelity of Active Minds’ K-12 programs and initiatives.

Active Minds is developing middle school programming through Active Minds’ unique youth empowerment lens and peer-to-peer approach to mental health. The ideal candidate is an emerging professional with growing knowledge and strong desire to help create tools, resources, and opportunities for youth to champion mental health change among their peers, institutions, and communities. The Program Associate, K-12 Student Leadership is dedicated to mobilizing youth around mental health, especially youth who have been historically and purposely marginalized including Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and Asian youth and LGBTQ+ youth.

KEY RESULTS: 

  • Program development: Contribute to the tailoring and expansion of current Active Minds programming to K-12 schools and youth, with special emphasis on supporting BIPOC and LGBTQ+ youth.
    • Review, develop, and expand program content for the Active Minds Mental Health Advocacy Academy.
    • Maintain and manage relationships and communications with youth participants, including supporting youth in navigating the Mental Health Advocacy Academy application and acceptance process, engage with youth using social network platforms like Discord, and connect youth with Active Minds teams when there are organizational requests to support broader mental health advocacy and mobilization opportunities.
    • Develop and review content for the Peer-Powered Mental Health Curriculum for High Schools.
    • Develop and review content for the Active Minds Your Voice is Your Power resource hub, a mental health resource hub for youth and young adults.
  • School Recruitment and Community Engagement: Support outreach strategies to reach youth, school and district administrators, and other community partners to help recruit youth to participate in high school Active Minds programs.
    • Coordinate and facilitate meetings and presentations with key community leaders. Meetings may be virtual or in-person.
    • Represent Active Minds at school health and public health conferences either by exhibiting and/or presenting.
  • Program onboarding and technical assistance: Develop and facilitate onboarding strategies for K-12 Initiatives programs:
    • Coach, train, and support potential and current program facilitators to help ensure instruction quality, fidelity, and comfort supporting youth in facilitating the Peer-Powered Mental Health Curriculum for High Schools.
    • Facilitate office hours for youth who participate in any K-12 Initiatives programs.
  • Administration: Maintain and track organized records including event details, communications, and program status in the organization-wide CRM system, Salesforce.

Qualifications

About You

  • At least 1-3 years of demonstrated experience developing and maintaining K-12 school health programs with key K-12 stakeholders, including youth, parents and caregivers, educators, school administrators, and community partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver effective presentations, trainings, and write reports and correspondence.
  • Effectiveness in a team setting and self-driven/independent motivation.
  • Experience with Microsoft and Google products and online meeting tools.
  • Experience with Salesforce or another CRM.
  • Belief that equity and social justice are important and driven to listen, reflect, and act on this belief.
  • Advocate for social entrepreneurship and a believer in young people making an impact.

COMPENSATION

This position offers an initial salary range of $50-55K along with robust benefits. The starting pay for this position is equal to others at the same level throughout the organization. Candidates whose experience meets both the minimum and preferred qualifications may be considered for a starting salary that exceeds the current amount. The role sits within Active Minds Level 1 salary band, and as such, has the potential to grow to $65k over time. FLSA Status: Exempt.
