Position Description
Advanced Energy United (United) is seeking a highly energetic, organized, self-starting candidate who will think of member engagement holistically, incorporating high value industry events and ongoing member activities with a focus on growth for our member companies and for our organization. The Director of Member Engagement will be responsible for all aspects of United’s member engagement, including designing and implementing strategies to increase member value, foster retention, and build deeper engagement across the association’s membership base.
This role is responsible for creating a best-in-class member experience by developing programs, communications, and opportunities that connect members to each other, to policymakers, and to market intelligence. The candidate should be a relationship-driven leader with experience in membership organizations or customer success who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. The ideal Director of Engagement will become an expert in the value, benefits, and features of all forms of Advanced Energy United membership.
The Director of Engagement will report to the VP of Sales and Business Development, working collaboratively with our sales, marketing, communications, and policy teams and will manage a team of their own.
Responsibilities
- Lead strategy and activities to build and maintain member relationships and engagement with United
- Manage United’s annual member survey process
- Lead United’s event strategy, planning, and execution. Work closely with policy team on successful member engagement and event content
- Provide engagement analysis using CRM throughout the membership year including active tracking of participation to inform program development
- Initiate and coordinate engagement activities in alignment with organization’s mission, vision, and goals
- Manage and develop Advanced Energy United’s member engagement and data team along with external vendors
Required Qualifications
- 7-10 years of member-related experience at a non-profit membership association, with a clear understanding of the role of trade associations
- Direct experience coordinating small to mid-scale events both online and in-person in geographically dispersed locations
- Independent and effective time management with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Interest in energy and transportation issues and an understanding of the importance of policy advocacy to advance an organizational agenda
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Experience managing and mentoring junior staff
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to independently draft clear, comprehensive, and persuasive written documents appropriate for intended audiences
- Entrepreneurial approach, intellectual curiosity, and excellent listening and problem-solving skills
- Performance-oriented individual with a strong work ethic, demonstrated initiative and commitment to achieving goals
- Ability to travel on an as-needed basis up to 1/3 of the year for events, meetings, member engagement opportunities and staff training.
