What We are Looking For:

The WFSE is recruiting to fill a Lobbyist position in Olympia, WA with our Legislative and Political Action department located in Olympia, WA. The Lobbyist position reports to the Director of Legislative and Political Action and is responsible for representing the interests and concerns of classified state employees before the Washington State Legislature, US Congress, and other policy-making bodies.

This position researches and analyzes public policy issues, prepares, and evaluates legislation and supports the Federation’s political action program. The position develops, prepares, and facilitates training and workshop presentations and works with union members on legislative and political issues. The Lobbyist position also provides public policy and political advice to members and staff and may testify to the Legislature on behalf of the WFSE and its members.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least two (2) years direct experience in legislative or political fields.
  • Persuasive communication and analytical skills along with the ability to present to large audiences.
  • Critical thinking, good judgement, and the ability to manage high stress levels.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, or related field.
  • Prior union experience.

Special Note:

As a condition of employment, candidates who accept a position will be required to provide proof of vaccination for COVID-19. Additionally, selected candidates will need to live within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned work location. This position is overtime exempt and may require work during evenings and weekends. Occasional travel may be required. Must have a valid driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and valid vehicle insurance. Excellent benefit package includes $150 cell phone allowance, vacation, and sick leave, medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance, 401K, pension, and (12) twelve paid holidays. The salary range is $88,063 to $101,944 and will be determined commensurate with experience.
