This position is responsible for developing and overseeing all aspects of AFSCME’s digital communications and marketing program, including its website, email, texting, social media and paid digital marketing programs. Responsible for developing a comprehensive online strategy that will increase the union’s effectiveness in member communications, education and mobilization (including online campaigns on legislative and policy issues, participation in its PAC and offline engagement).

Duties:

  • Responsible for developing and managing the union’s digital and paid marketing strategies to support national and local priorities.
  • Develops and manages the digital and marketing budgets.
  • Coordinates large-scale multi-channel digital campaigns from start to finish with clear indicators of success.
  • Assures integration of digital strategies and tactics with offline communications, education, mobilization, organizing, political, fundraising and other activities.
  • Leads the development and implementation of internal policies and procedures for digital campaign communications.
  • Liaises with union data specialists to develop procedures for online data collection and integration.
  • Keeps up to date with the latest trends, tools and developments in digital media, including but not limited to social channels, email marketing, mobile strategy, analytics, and content testing.
  • Manages digital campaigns effectively by establishing clear owners, timelines, budgets and key performance indicators.
  • Serves as a guide, mentor, and manager to digital and paid marketing staff, setting goals and expectations for projects.
  • May assist the Director on special projects and department initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a relevant degree.

Skills Requirements:

A minimum of ten (10) years of experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Effective and proven strategic planning, team process and project management experience.
  • Strong understanding of digital strategy including experience with email production, social media trends, text messaging, front end web development, audience segmentation, digital marketing and content testing.
  • Proven strategic communications experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including experience writing for digital platforms to drive user action.
  • Excellent project management skills and attention to detail, with demonstrated experience building systems for quality assurance, feedback loops, and optimization.
  • Effective supervision skills and abilities.
  • Ability to develop and implement budgets.
  • Ability to work both independently and part of a team – and collaborate well with others.
  • Proven ability to juggle several projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to editorial excellence.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

Travel & Work hours

  • Extended travel and extended work hours, including some weekends may be required.
