Posted on Sep 7, 2023

AFSCME's Office of the General Counsel provides in-house legal representation to the AFSCME International Union and its affiliates throughout the country. Law clerks assist in initiating and defending litigation to safeguard the interests of the union and in providing counsel on diverse matters such as organizing campaigns, traditional labor and employment law, questions of constitutional law, legislative and policy advocacy, and campaign finance and political law.

AFSCME is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and full participation, both within the union and in society as a whole. Diverse candidates, including women, people of color, people with fluent bilingual skills, people who are LGBTQ+, and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Fall 2023-Spring 2024 law clerks will work in-office at our Washington, D.C. headquarters at the rate of $25 per hour. Strong preference will be given to applicants who can commit to both Fall and Spring Semesters.

Second and third-year law students are eligible to apply. Interested students should email a statement of interest, resume, writing sample(s), transcript and two references to the Hiring Committee at dfontaine@afscme.org.
