Agog, a groundbreaking nonprofit organization at the intersection of technology, communications, and social impact, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced community builder to join our team.
We’re looking for a passionate and skilled Community Manager to develop and implement a new program to cultivate and steward a growing, vibrant network of XR creators, nonprofit leaders, and other changemakers dedicated to using immersive media for social good. Over time, the Community Manager will help oversee a small set of network weavers, whether on staff or contract, to help knit together our community.
U.S.-based remote role with a preference for candidates based in Seattle, LA, or the Bay Area.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement strategy: Help develop and execute the strategy for Agog’s community program, which will cover multiple constituencies (e.g., XR creators, nonprofit leaders, journalists, and other storytellers) and topic areas (e.g., climate change, resilient food systems, Indigenous knowledge, and human rights), and be centered around historically marginalized communities.
- Establish systems: Develop and implement systems and operations for the community program, including relationship management, engagement measurement, and evaluation of progress toward goals, with the help of tools such as a CRM like Salesforce and an ESP like Pardot.
- Cultivate a thriving community: Nurture and expand Agog’s community of individuals and organizations interested in XR for social good, including through online and IRL activities.
- Forge connections: Develop relationships with community members, identify their needs and interests, and connect them with relevant resources and opportunities, as well as with each other—e.g.,connect XR creators with nonprofits and other social-impact organizations seeking to leverage immersive media for storytelling and activism.
- Design and deliver engaging programming: Develop and implement a diverse range of community-building initiatives, including workshops, meetups, mentorship programs, online forums (e.g., Slack or Discord), and collaborative projects.
- Develop a team: Over time, help recruit and lead a small team of network weavers, on staff or contract, to knit together our community.
- Facilitate impactful events: Play a key role in planning and executing other Agog-hosted events (online and IRL), with a focus on community engagement and growth.
- Expand Agog's reach: Represent Agog at events, conferences, and workshops to build partnerships, raise awareness, and recruit new community members.
- Stay ahead of the curve: Support research and analysis to identify trends, best practices, and emerging opportunities in the field of XR for social good.
Qualifications
- Minimum of five to seven years of experience in community building and network development, with strong IRL and online components, including demonstrated excellence in planning, priority-setting, and tactical execution in this area
- Deep passion for building and supporting relationships; skilled in lifting up the work of others; proven ability to nurture relationships with diverse individuals and organizations
- Strong connections within at least one of Agog’s core constituencies
- Experience establishing programs and growing teams
- Fluent with software including Gmail Workplace, Slack, CRMs like Salesforce, and collaboration tools like Notion, Asana, or similar
- Superb written and verbal communications skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Creativity when curating communities and gatherings
- Ability to push through ambiguity to deliver results
- Demonstrated knowledge of climate-change and social-justice issues, and experience working with a range of sectors
- Experience in the nonprofit sector or with other forms of social-impact initiatives is a plus
- Knowledge of XR technologies preferred; a willingness to learn is essential
$150,000 - $175,000 a year
