Who We Are

The Alliance for Safety and Justice is a multi-state organization that aims to replace ineffective criminal justice system policies with what works to keep people safe. We are organizers, policy advocates and experts, research and communications specialists, and grassroots mobilizers. We represent diverse crime survivors as well as people living with old records as key public safety stakeholders. We organize people most harmed by violence and incarceration, and through nonpartisan coalition building and strategic campaigning, we change laws in the large states to transform the nation. For more information, visit: https://allianceforsafetyandjustice.org.

Scaling Safety is a new national initiative jointly led by two prominent safety organizations: Alliance for Safety and Justice (ASJ) and Community-Based Public Safety Collective (CBPSC). Launched in January 2025, Scaling Safety aims to support the development of effective community-based prevention programs that empower residents and prevent crisis from becoming crime. Scaling Safety will act as an accelerator for promising interventions already happening at the grassroots level and, through technical know-how and flexible financial support, they will expand a range of “resident-powered prevention programs” that train residents to act as conflict mediators, peer counselors, victim advocates, and more. By equipping organizations and leaders with resources and skills to grow their impact, we aim to save lives, heal neighborhoods, and lay the foundation for a new approach to public safety. Over the next five years, Scaling Safety will invest in and accelerate a range of programs in Austin, Texas; Cleveland, Ohio; Jackson, Mississippi; Miami, Florida; and Tucson, Arizona. We aim to double access to crisis assistance and reduce violence by up to 50%.
