Our vision is to ensure every trans and queer person has on-demand access to the safe resources they need to thrive. Over 420,000 people have used InReach to access verified LGBTQ+ resources.
About the Role
Social Media Interns will work closely with InReach’s Executive Director to maintain and expand InReach’s digital presence across multiple social platforms. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit social media strategy while amplifying critical resources for the diverse LGBTQ+ community.
Internship Details
- Summer 2026 Dates: June 8, 2026- August 8, 2026
- Required hours per week: 12 (*interns can select their own hours–Monday through Friday–based on their schedule/time zone; all interns will use InReach's volunteer management system to log their hours for accountability)
- Location: Fully remote (from anywhere in the United States, Canada or Mexico)
- Compensation: Unpaid (InReach staff can assist with academic credit if applicable—please indicate this in your application.)
- Report to InReach’s Executive Director.
- Manage and maintain InReach’s social media channels, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Bluesky, YouTube, and TikTok.
- Ensure all social media content aligns with InReach’s organizational voice and branding.
- Create engaging graphics, videos, and other visual content using Canva to promote:
- The free InReach platform and its impact;
- Current events affecting the LGBTQ+ community (e.g., legislation, public discourse);
- Educational content on LGBTQ+ issues.
- Engage with community partners, content creators, and relevant social accounts to build relationships, collaboration opportunities, and visibility.
- Develop strategies to increase InReach’s social media following and engagement.
- Assist with additional digital communications and operations tasks as needed.
- Pursuing or have obtained a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
- Reliable access to a computer and internet connection.
- Available for 12 hours per week (Monday–Friday).
- Passionate about LGBTQ+ rights and eager to learn.
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment using tools like G Suite, POINT, Discord, Zoom, Canva (graphic design), and Hootsuite (social media management).
- Knowledge of basic design principles; experience in social media management, graphic design, and/or video editing is a plus. *Applicants are encouraged to submit samples of previous social media work with their application.
- Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Professional proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
