ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION TEAM BerlinRosen’s Technology Innovation practice comprises over 40 communications professionals who bring a unique campaign-style approach to strategic communications, combining expert strategy and nimble execution with the creativity and speed of a startup. We represent some of the biggest newsmakers defining the future of technology across consumer tech, fintech, climate, gaming, healthtech, media, urban innovation, and education including Samsung, Bloomberg Media, Cornell Tech, General Assembly, and Mozilla. The Deals team represents some of the biggest investors and portfolio companies, including venture and private equity firms, as well as early to growth stage companies. We work on annual letters to shareholders to funding announcements—and everything in between. ABOUT THIS ROLE BerlinRosen is seeking a Vice President to join our rapidly growing Deals team to support client strategies for a range of established and emerging investors, founders and other brands including VC and private equity firms, startup accelerators and incubators, as well as early to growth-stage companies. Several of our investors and companies work in the climate and renewable energy space, but they also operate across other verticals as well (including fintech, digital health, gaming, sports, entertainment, and more). This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience leading communications strategy in fast-paced environments. The Vice President will help develop client strategy, manage staff to drive an overall work plan, lead day-to-day client relations, conceptualize pitches and land strong earned media placements, plus play an active role in talent and business development. For this role, the ideal candidate has deep, intimate knowledge of investor relations, the larger investment and funding landscape and is comfortable working directly with executive-level dealmakers in the VC or private equity space(s) and the portfolio companies they invest in. This person also has a strong, creative approach to media relations, with a developed sense of how to create and land a story with limited resources. This includes landing executive interviews, profiles, and desk-sides for our investors; helping founders with go-to market earned and paid media strategies; and successfully planning and executing funding announcements and other similar milestones. Role location: Ideally, candidates are based near Los Angeles, C.A., though candidates living in the Pacific Time Zone or located near our New York, N.Y. or Washington, D.C. offices will still be considered. Technology and Innovation team members based near our New York, N.Y. and Washington, D.C. are in office on a hybrid basis, 2-3 days per week. ACCOUNTABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS As a Vice President on the Deals team, you will… <ul> <li style="font-weight:300;">Set the direction on large-scale strategic planning and execution efforts</li> <li style="font-weight:300;">Lead smart, proactive and thoughtful high-touch daily client communications with the same client leads, juggling competing priorities (through regular calls and in-person meetings/presentations)</li> <li style="font-weight:300;">Partner closely with agency leads to develop robust strategy plans, reports, updates and other presentation materials for the broader client team</li> <li style="font-weight:300;">Directly manage a team of 2-4 junior staff (in addition to interns), keeping a very close eye on quality control and ensuring client deliverables are smart, thoughtful, on-time and error-free</li> <li style="font-weight:300;">Work closely with our leadership on overall account management and capacity planning, ensuring client objectives are regularly met, our work is completed effectively and the team is run efficiently</li> <li style="font-weight:300;">Help our practice win new business and proactively expand our relationships in the sector</li> </ul> Essential skills: <ul> <li style="font-weight:300;">7+ years of experience in communications: prior PR agency experience is required for this role</li> <li style="font-weight:300;">Demonstrated knowledge of investors and the startup ecosystem</li> <li style="font-weight:300;">2-3 years minimum of demonstrated staff management experience</li> <li style="font-weight:300;">Can conceptualize, develop and produce client plans and client recommendations and present to client, executives and partners in thoughtful formats</li> <li style="font-weight:300;">Internalizes client and staff input to deliver initial strategies on their own, further honing and developing client plans based on edits and guidance from senior members of the team to produce excellent final results</li> <li style="font-weight:300;">Strong media relationships and a proven track record of securing stories in elite business, finance, tech and startup press (e.g. Bloomberg, Fortune, Forbes, Axios, Fast Company, etc)</li> <li style="font-weight:300;">Has a strong track record handling multiple assignments at once, working quickly and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment</li> <li style="font-weight:300;">Impeccable writing skills for internal and external audiences (including staff, partners, investors, reporters and consumers/the broad public). Our clients are newsmakers and tastemakers—and their decisions have a direct impact on a wide group of stakeholders. We’re looking for someone who can confidently write both a personalized email to investors and a NYT-worthy op-ed</li> </ul> Preferred skills: <ul> <li style="font-weight:300;">Prior PR agency experience working directly with a VC or private equity client or an early or growth-stage founder (including building their executive profile, and/or helping them announce a funding round)</li> </ul> Note: Interested in this role but it’s not quite the right match? WORKING AT BERLINROSEN Compensation philosophy: BerlinRosen offers competitive industry rate salary bands with the goal of retaining and growing talented individuals.
