What to know

Help us tell our story to the right audiences with compelling content. We are looking for a Marketing Director to hone Blue State’s voice, story, and marketing across channels to help us drive more brand awareness and high quality business leads. You will showcase our mission, our work, and our clients and lift up the ideas and voices of our employees, offering a window into the culture of our workplace to attract new clients and talent.

The ideal candidate has a background in B2B marketing, agency sales or client services, content strategy and development, and project management, with a passion for writing and telling stories of the nonprofit, advocacy organizations, and purpose-driven brands whose values match our own. You are a person who is both creative and analytical, and understands how to put themselves in the shoes of Blues State’s target audiences to deliver impactful content that drives business results. You are also comfortable executing marketing programs across channels — social, email, paid events, and conferences.

You’ll help develop the marketing program from strategy and concepting through execution. You’ll work closely with the Head of Global Marketing, the broader Partnerships (business development and marketing) team, and thought leaders across the agency to bring together an overall vision and roadmap for marketing. You will then develop and execute content calendars, and plan events, in concert with subject-matter-experts across the agency to develop content that ranges from major reports to social posts. Lastly, you will help us execute the plan, helping to create and distribute content across channels.

You will also support the Partnerships team on select proposals and pitches, get to know our business development approach, better understand how we competitively differentiate ourselves, and help us to refine our storytelling.

A day in the life

  • Help develop a content and messaging plan and channel distribution strategy that drives leads and applicants, and aligns with Blue States brand identity, goals, and voice.
  • Develop marketing content and sales collateral, working with internal teams and external vendors/clients to deliver:
    • Short form blog content: ensure we deliver content at the right quality and frequency
    • Social media: develop social media content calendar across X, Instagram and LinkedIn
    • Email: develop and oversee the issue of a bi-weekly newsletter for our fundraising practice & monthly view from our advocacy work
    • Long-form thought leadership & events: typically in the form of gated content, a visual report, or a webinar that will appear either on our website or a partner publication
    • Updated collateral: such as new case studies and about us blurbs
  • Work with the Partnerships Manager & Partnerships Associate (BDA) on logistical aspects of bringing content to life (e.g., social media management, website updates, email QA & execution, etc.)
  • Work alongside the Partnerships team and align on strategies for sustaining key prospects and manage relevant lists in Salesforce and via our CRM tool
  • Lead and contribute to BlueState.co website content development and management, working with our teams to coordinate and develop case studies and website content on a weekly basis and manage site updates
  • Create a social media strategy and community management guidelines, as well as oversee ongoing execution and community management
  • Work in partnership with our paid media team and oversee the performance of Blue State’s paid advertising program

  • Support Partnerships on select proposals and pitches.
