Founded in 2018 as the first volunteer data team for Beto O’Rourke’s US Senate campaign, Bluebonnet Data is a woman-led organization focused on building people power in the progressive movement. We do this by recruiting, training, and organizing the next generation of tech-savvy talent for campaigns, nonprofits, parties, and other organizations in the Democratic ecosystem. We are dynamic individuals who will transform the Party for the modern era.

About the Data & Technology Specialist:

Bluebonnet Data is seeking a part-time, temporary Data & Technology Specialist to support progressive campaigns and causes. The Data & Technology Specialist will support the development of Bluebonnet data and tech teams and help build Bluebonnet’s internal knowledge base and technical infrastructure. This is a great opportunity to connect with a progressive community and learn how data and tech can be used to help campaigns and causes.

Key Responsibilities

Tech Program Support (50%)

  • Connect Bluebonnet’s data and tech teams to internal and external data and tech resources
  • Be a point of contact for data and tech teams to provide support and assistance
  • Coordinate and facilitate fellow working groups to share knowledge and resources across teams

Data & Technical Infrastructure Development (50%)

  • Project curation & templating Polish existing fellow projects to be used as templates for future work Contribute to Bluebonnet Data's internal codebase Support the Technical Program Manager in building a portfolio of projects that can be used to assist future clients with project scoping
  • Technical advising & resource curation Advise fellows on technical challenges in their projects as applicable (you do not need to be an expert in all or even most of the project matter!) Create and curate resources for technical trainings and reference materials
Required Skills and Experiences

Coding and Data Skills

  • Background working with data in Python or R, with a working understanding of either language, ideally both
  • Familiarity with Git and version control, and experience working with GitHub.
  • Demonstrated project experience in data science. Any experience in civic or political space is a plus but not required

Strategic leadership and agility

  • Able to think big-picture and able to break those large goals into smaller, actionable steps.
  • Observe and anticipate problem areas and approach them with a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Able to think critically and challenge norms

Strong communication skills

  • Able to juggle multiple projects and timelines.
  • Excellence in written and verbal communication.
  • Able to approach teamwork with a constructive mindset.
  • Able to manage multiple internal and external relationships.

Familiarity with political campaigning

  • Experience doing technical or data work within a political campaign setting. Experience with organizing and/or other campaign activities is a plus.

Classification, Salary, and Benefits:

This is a part-time (20 hours/week), seasonal position, with a start date between July 15 and August 1st, and an end date between November 15 or November 30, depending on the start date. We are offering a stipend of $2,000 a month with a health insurance reimbursement stipend.

Bluebonnet Data is a remote organization, but team members currently work between Boston (MA), Austin (TX), Dallas (TX), and Washington DC.

Bluebonnet Data is not able to provide visa sponsorship at this time.
