About Break Something

Break Something is an all screen media agency with a digital focus. Our work spans everything from competitive House, Senate, and governor races to ballot measures and non-profits. We're looking for someone who gets excited about testing new tactics, optimizing toward ambitious goals, and building a team that does their best work.

The Role

We need a Digital Advertising Director to lead a team that sets the standard for how Break Something runs paid media campaigns. You'll manage a team of advertising strategists while running several high-stakes client campaigns. This isn't just about execution. We want someone responsible for staying ahead of new platforms, techniques, tools, and AI innovations, figuring out what's worth adopting and what's hype, and making sure our team has the skills and processes to deliver exceptional work.

You'll work alongside partners to develop media plans, guide creative testing, optimize based on performance data, and make sure every campaign we run reflects Break Something's reputation for smart, bold advertising.

What You'll Do

You're setting the tone for how Break Something does advertising. Here's what that looks like:

Leading the team. You'll manage advertising strategists through their day-to-day work while helping them level up their skills. You're providing strategic direction, creative guidance, and the kind of mentorship that turns good strategists into great ones. You're also helping us navigate what's next (new platforms, AI tools, reporting techniques, targeting innovations) and making sure the team is ready to use them effectively.

Running campaigns. You'll act as project manager for several assigned high-stakes clients. That includes developing media strategies, creating targeting plans, working with creative teams to test concepts, optimizing based on performance, and reporting results. You're interfacing with clients alongside partners, making sure the internal execution matches the big strategic vision.

Setting standards. You'll make sure our advertising work is consistently excellent across all clients. That means quality assurance on creative implementation, accurate tracking and reporting, budget management, timely invoicing, and smooth coordination with our data team.

Pushing innovation. You'll use your expertise in persuasion and performance advertising to keep Break Something at the front of the pack. When new opportunities come up, you're evaluating them. When campaigns aren't hitting goals, you're figuring out why and fixing it. When something works, you're scaling it and teaching the team how to replicate it.

What You Bring

You're highly creative and know how to build campaigns that engage target audiences and hit KPIs. You've got deep platform expertise in Meta, Google Ads, and a DSP or other programmatic or managed service vendors. You're comfortable with marketing research and statistical analysis, and you can build and manage media budgets.

You've managed teams and know how to balance hands-on support with strategic leadership. You're self-motivated, client-focused, and solution-oriented. When you see a problem, you fix it. When you see an opportunity, you go after it.

Most importantly, you're an expert in persuasion or performance advertising, or ideally both. You understand what makes these campaigns work, and you can teach others how to run them effectively.

  • Highly creative, with a proven ability to build performance-driven campaigns that engage target audiences and hit KPIs
  • Deep platform expertise across Meta, Google Ads, and at least one DSP or other programmatic/managed service vendor
  • Strong comfort with marketing research and statistical analysis to inform strategy and optimize performance
  • Experience building, managing, and optimizing media budgets across channels
  • Demonstrated people-management experience, balancing hands-on execution with strategic leadership
  • Self-motivated, client-focused, and solution-oriented, with a bias toward action and ownership
  • Proactive problem solver who identifies issues early and pursues opportunities aggressively
  • Expert in persuasion advertising, performance advertising, or ideally both
  • Deep understanding of what drives campaign success and the ability to teach and mentor others to run effective campaigns

Salary range: $100,000-$120,000 annually, plus competitive benefits. Break Something offers paid time off and operates on Eastern Standard Time (remote position).

Break Something is an equal opportunity employer and people of all backgrounds, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and identities are encouraged to apply.
