About Solar For All

Capital Good Fund has been awarded a $156 million Solar for All grant under the EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund to bring the benefits of solar to thousands of low-income and disadvantaged Georgians over the next five years. Over the next 5 years, Good Fund seeks experienced staff to support and to serve as subject matter experts on federal grant compliance, develop standards and processes, and train staff, subrecipients, and contractors on various requirements and procedures relative to the grant. This position is contingent upon contract award and grant funding.

Position Summary

We are actively seeking individuals who are passionate about an equitable energy transition that prioritizes the needs of impacted communities. The successful candidate will join our Legal Team, collaborating with various stakeholders to contribute to Solar for All programmatic goals. This key role involves partnering with our General Counsel, Director of Georgia BRIGHT, and other stakeholders and departments to provide support to the legal department and the Solar for All grant program directly, while helping to shape legal strategies and provide direct support to all coordinating departments and personnel. The ability to assess legal risks while applying good legal and business judgment will be important. This person will often interact with internal and external resources while addressing complex issues in an accurate, clear, and concise yet thorough manner. Additionally, mastery and maintenance of our internal systems, specifically our contract management system will be a key function of this role. The right candidate will have excellent problem-solving skills, computer and data management experience and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing business landscape.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be included as assigned:

Core Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Draft and review contracts, including creating and revising various contracts, such as service agreements, lease agreements, and procurement contracts
  • Ensure that contracts comply with federal and state laws, satisfy all terms and conditions of the Solar for All award, and meet the company's specific requirements
  • Represent the organization during negotiations with vendors, subawardees, investors, and other partners to ensure favorable terms. This includes negotiating rates, service terms, dispute resolution methods, and confidentiality agreements
  • Ensure that the company adheres to all regulatory standards and laws at both federal and state levels
  • Identify potential legal risks in contractual agreements and advise management on risk mitigation strategies. This includes analyzing the legal implications of various business strategies and transactions
  • Handle disputes that arise from contract negotiations or executions
  • Provide advice to department leaders in conjunction with General Counsel on legal contract terms, negotiations, and compliance issues to reduce legal risk and educate them on important legal concepts
  • Coordinate with outside legal counsel for specialized legal needs or when handling complex legal issues that require external expertise
  • Regularly update standard contracts to reflect changes in law and business strategies as well as lessons learned from past negotiations and disputes
  • Collaborate with General Counsel, Director of Georgia BRIGHT, Human Resources, Development, Accounting, and C-Suite, to contribute to contractual, performance, compliance, and financial reporting
  • Master and drive utilization of our contract management system, contributing to the development of new technology solutions, contract templates, and guidelines for partner programs
  • Participate in compliance initiatives, including training internal clients on legal and contracting policies and issues, such as privacy and data protection
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Legal Department
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills, Knowledge And Abilities

  • Degree from a reputable law school with solid academic credentials and a valid license to practice law in any U.S. state
  • 2+ years of relevant professional experience in commercial and contract law
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong attention to detail, and solid analytical abilities
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing workloads
  • Creative problem-solving skills with a focus on achieving practical solutions while managing company risk
  • Eagerness to anticipate the needs of a fast-paced organization and collaborate effectively to solve problems

Desired Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities

  • Experience with federal grants, non-profit organizations, financial institutions, and/or government entities, particularly the EPA or similar agencies
  • Experience with energy, regulatory, or public utility law, preferably in the state of Georgia

Salary and Benefits

  • $85,000 - $90,000 annually, commensurate with experience

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
