Catalist seeks a Senior AAPI Analytics Fellow to provide data and analytics support to the Asian American and Pacific Islander Civic Engagement Fund (The Fund) and other leading progressive political, organizing, and advocacy groups for the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Community, which encompasses people from East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Philippines, and the Pacific Islands.
The Fellow will play a critical role in supporting the analysis, design, testing, and application of polling and other forms of opinion research strategies for understanding and predicting civic and political behavior in the AAPI community.
The salary range for this position will be $100,000 - $120,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
This is a full-time, temporary, political cycle position ending in June 2025.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Research and Coordination
- Work closely with The Fund, their partners, grantees, and other leading community organizations to develop on a research agenda that is pertinent to understanding and supporting the civic engagement of the AAPI community
- Design and execute research projects as per agenda
- Interface regularly with Catalist, The Fund and other community leaders to provide regular research reports and updates
Analytics and Data Science
- Expertly leverage Catalist and AAPI partner organizations’ data resources to provide polling, modeling, and other opinion research on political and socioeconomic trends for the AAPI community in the U.S.
- Collaborate on and communicate scientific and methodological solutions with program partners, other data science specialists in the progressive community, and across the Catalist Analytics department
- Provide quality control to ensure deliverables are presented accurately and precisely
- Other duties as needed
Requirements
- Demonstrated expertise in political data science and modeling methods
- Well-versed in statistical concepts such as polling research, regression analysis, statistical and Bayesian inference, and probabilities
- Demonstrated experience in designing, running, or analyzing polls, especially connecting information from disparate polls or opinion research
- Demonstrated experience in data science products for use in civic and political programs
- Familiarity with political and socioeconomic trends in the Asian American and Pacific Islander community across the United States
- Familiarity with Catalist data, progressive political needs, voter files, and/or commercial databases a plus
- Working knowledge of SQL
- Proficiency in Python or R
- Highly motivated, curious, and collaborative
- Strong problem-solving skills and a demonstrated capacity to thrive in evolving environments
- Background check required
Preferred Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in political science, social/behavioral science, economics, statistics, or related field
- Knowledge of the principles of experimental design and/or survey research
- Experience with BigQuery, Airflow, and version control tools such as Git
