As the Deputy Director of Data QA at Catalist, you will have a leading role in efforts to discover actionable insights using the largest repository of individual-level data in progressive politics. The position is responsible for ensuring the quality and accuracy of data throughout its life cycle at Catalist.
The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual with excellent technical skills, a strong desire to learn new skills, and an interest in progressive politics. This position reports to the Director of Data QA. The Deputy Director of Data QA is a part of a growing Data team that supports all underlying work at Catalist.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities
- Participate in hiring and staff management for the Data QA team
- Manage operational tasks for the Data QA team and provide support on technical and non-technical items to team members
- Oversee and administer onboarding and staff training for the QA team
- Lead the Data QA involvement on cross-departmental projects, directly interacting with other departments working on the projects, stakeholders, and management
- Serve as an internal subject matter expert on various datasets and support other Catalist teams on usage of those datasets
- Serve as the primary resource for investigating and communicating anomalies in Catalist data across the management team
Requirements
- BS or BA in a technical field, or relevant experience
- Experience working within teams of varying technical abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (large data sets, formulas, graphs, and pivot tables)
- Experience with SQL, Python, or other relational database programming language and shell scripting
- Background check required

- Ability to become an internal subject matter expert on various datasets and support other Catalist departments and teams on usage of those datasets
- Familiarity with advanced, large-scale AI models designed for text generation, coding, and reasoning such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini
- Interest in working with the following platforms: GCP, Google BigQuery, Google Looker, Tableau, and Jupyter Notebooks
- Familiarity with Catalist data, progressive politics, voter files, and/or commercial data
