Position Title: Senior Digital Content Producer

Position Location: Candidates are welcome to apply from across the U.S. Those that are near a Popular Democracy office in DC or Brooklyn may be asked to work from a Popular Democracy office one or two days/week if necessary. Applicants outside of those areas may be required to travel to a Popular Democracy office occasionally.

Popular Democracy is seeking a Senior Digital Content Producer to join the Communications and Narrative Department. This is a full-time, exempt position.

About the Position:

We are seeking a Senior Digital Content Producer to create custom video, graphic and other digital content to support our digital campaigns in order to drive offline action, mobilize communities, and build engagement with our brand. All Culture and Narrative Content efforts will move in deep partnership with colleagues across the programmatic departments of Fightback, Organizing, and Communications & Narrative.

It is expected that the Senior Digital Content Producer will travel and attend in-person meetings and events, including staff and team retreats, when necessary.

We estimate that candidates will have about 10 years of relevant experience, but our review of candidates for this role will focus on whether they can fill the needs of the position, not years of experience.

The Senior Digital Content Producer will report to the Director of Digital Campaigns.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Senior Digital Content Producer will:

  • Lead and execute digital content production, in English and Spanish, that informs, educates, recruits, drives turnout for offline actions, and builds engagement with our brand. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Producing graphic, video and other digital content across platforms that brings people in by rapidly responding to and helping people make sense of current events, and giving them something to do
    • Managing digital storytelling, ensuring alignment with narrative strategy and organizational voice
    • Contributing to the production and planning of online events
  • Lead the development, design, and editing of graphics, videos, and other multimedia content with guidance from supervisor, maintaining brand consistency across projects.
  • Collaborate with partners on the Digital Campaigns team and other stakeholders in identifying opportunities for timely creative content and track and manage incoming requests from team members.
  • Handle design work from concept to delivery, including generating bold, fresh ideas.
  • Provide guidance and support to colleagues and affiliates engaged in developing digital content, including sharing best design practices for social media, email and other digital platforms.
  • Assist with the creation and execution of trainings and other events for campaigns and affiliates to grow their capacity to leverage digital content for change.
  • Lead and coordinate content production at events and actions, including shooting, filming, and coordinating photographers and videographers.
  • Determine video and still image selections, organizing our image and video database, and ensuring distribution to our staff, affiliate organizations and press.
  • Manage livestream contractors to ensure high-quality visuals on live streams of webinars during, remote and in person events.
  • Develop digital content toolkits for affiliates.
  • Coach and mentor other staff and organizers.
  • Support fundraising and donor engagement efforts as assigned.
  • Travel to affiliates and events as assigned.
  • Other related duties as needed and assigned.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Be a creative and innovative thinker who balances bold ideas with practical execution;
  • Have a strong understanding and familiarity with visual branding and design;
  • Have a keen eye for aesthetics and attention to detail;
  • Have 3-5 years of experience producing videos, graphics, websites, and other creative content for social justice and organizing purposes;
  • Have experience working hand-in-hand with organizers to integrate offline and online engagement tactics;
  • Have strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time and meet deadlines, and proven ability to work in the context of rapid response moments;
  • Bring a strong racial equity analysis and experience in communicating about Black, brown and working communities;
  • Be experienced with Canva Pro and Adobe Creative Cloud and ability to support others in their use of those programs;
  • Fluent Spanish language skills preferred but not required;
  • A demonstrated commitment to social, racial, and economic justice and a deep understanding of challenges facing low-wage workers, immigrant communities, communities of color, disabled people, LGBTQ+ folks, and people at the intersections of the above communities.

Hiring Process:

Candidates should expect to participate in two rounds of group interviews and a job simulation exercise. Final candidates will be asked to provide references.

Salary and Benefits:

This position is included in a collective bargaining unit represented by the Washington-Baltimore News Guild. Specific employment terms are subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The salary for this category 3 position is determined by a salary calculation system that is set by the CBA and is not negotiable. The starting salary is $81,500 and can increase up to $91,500, depending on a variety of factors as described in the CBA.

We have a generous benefits package, including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 15 vacation days your first year, 12 sick days per year, additional PTO, including holidays, and contributions to individuals’ 401K plans.
