The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) is a nonpartisan research and policy institute that advances federal and state policies to help build a nation where everyone — regardless of income, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, ZIP code, immigration status, or disability status — has the resources they need to thrive and share in the nation’s prosperity.

CBPP combines rigorous research and analysis, strategic communications, and effective advocacy to shape debates, affect policy, and inform effective implementation both nationally and in states. It works closely with a broad set of national, state, and community organizations to design and advance policies that promote economic justice; improve health; broaden opportunity in areas like housing, health care, employment, and education; and lower structural barriers for people of color and others in communities that continue to face systemic barriers to opportunity. CBPP promotes policies that will build a more equitable nation and fair tax policies that can support these gains over the long term. CBPP also shows the harmful impacts of policies and proposals that would deepen poverty, widen disparities, and worsen health outcomes.

CBPP seeks a Manager for Digital Communications to join the digital communications team and develop and implement innovative approaches for presenting CBPP’s analysis across its website, publications, social media, and other online strategies. In their role, the Manager for Digital Communications will focus on driving paid digital advertising campaigns, crafting engaging charts and graphics to complement written work, producing short-form videos and other digital content to amplify CBPP’s research and policy impact, and translating complex policy topics into digestible and engaging content for diverse audiences across CBPP’s social media channels. They will also serve as a liaison between the communications team and select policy teams.

The Manager for Digital Communications will play a crucial role in the team’s ongoing efforts to engage audiences with fresh and creative digital content and in furthering CBPP’s mission of helping build a nation where everyone has the resources they need to thrive and share in the nation’s prosperity.

  • Develop and execute creative and effective messaging and digital strategies to communicate CBPP policy research and analysis in areas such as federal tax, food assistance, health care, and income security.
  • Execute paid digital advertising campaigns to inform the online conversation about critical policy debates.
  • Design eye-catching charts and graphics that visually convey clear takeaways for written products such as papers and blog posts.
  • Produce compelling and informative videos with a storytelling lens and collaborate with team members to develop a strategic plan for their promotion.
  • Draft social media copy that translates complex policy topics into easy-to-understand and engaging content for multiple audiences.
  • Collaborate with policy teams to develop ways to use digital communication strategies to meet their policy goals.
  • Develop processes to stay updated with the latest debates and developments in Congress, the Administration, state capitals, as well as public conversations around CBPP's policy issues and goals to ensure their integration in CBPP's digital content.
  • Participate in CBPP activities and events to support staff learning and development, information sharing, and community building; proactively build cross-organizational relationships; and contribute meaningfully to a work environment that centers equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Perform other job-related duties within the role’s scope, as assigned, to support the team’s goals.

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience in digital communications.
  • Ability to develop and execute effective messaging and digital communications strategies.
  • Experience creating and formatting charts in Excel, DeltaGraph, Adobe Illustrator or similar applications and and proficiency in using Canva, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop or other similar applications for creating shareable graphics.
  • Proficiency in CapCut, After Affects, and Premier Pro or similar applications for creating video content.
  • Experience developing and executing paid digital advertising campaigns, including an understanding of key performance indicators that measure the success of a campaign.
  • Ability to balance multiple responsibilities and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Aptitude for quickly learning new skills and processes.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to foster relationships across teams, and ability to share and receive feedback constructively.
  • Enthusiasm for and commitment to collaborating with colleagues and contributing to an equitable and inclusive team and organizational culture.
  • An understanding of structural racism and other systemic inequities and a commitment to advancing equity, inclusion, and justice through the Center’s communications work.
  • Commitment to CBPP’s work to expand opportunity for low- and moderate-income families and building a stronger, more equitable nation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to communicate about complex policy issues in a way that is creative and resonates with multiple audiences.
  • Strong project management skills, with a knack for keeping up with rapidly evolving timelines and responding quickly to emerging developments.

CBPP is currently operating on a hybrid work schedule of two in-office days (Tuesday and Wednesday) per week as well as the first Thursday of each month in our Washington, D.C. office.

This position reports to the Deputy Director for Digital Communications.

Terms of Employment: Full-time; exempt

Bargaining Unit Status: This is a bargaining unit position.

Compensation: Salary for the role starts at $70,000 annually and goes up to $85,000, with the exact salary to be determined based on total relevant experience; excellent benefits (including health insurance, vision and dental coverage, life and long-term disability insurance, retirement, MERP, and DCAP), and generous vacation, sick leave, and holiday schedules.
