The CZI Finance team is responsible for the accuracy and completeness of information across all CZI initiatives and entities. We’re building a world class accounting team and strive for excellence in everything we do. Accounting and reporting are complex and challenging at a company as unique as CZI. Our goal is to leverage CZI’s current systems like Workday and Salesforce to help address that complexity and provide reporting to our business partners and external parties alike.
As a Senior Accountant, you will report to the Assistant Controller of Reporting and be responsible for helping to prepare and review the month end close. You should have strong experience in the preparation and review of areas such as cash, accruals, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, leases, intercompany payables/receivables, AP, and T&E accruals. Note that although you will report to the Assistant Controller, your work product will be mainly managed by the Accounting Manager responsible for the functional close areas you are assigned. Familiarity with a multi-entity organization is preferred. In addition to month end close, you will also assist in various projects and tasks such as internal reporting, internal controls, process documentation, memorandums, and various audits.
You should also be familiar with and successful at using and trouble-shooting ERP software. Experience with Workday is a plus but not required. You will be expected to learn about our systems (Workday, SFDC) and understand them well enough to work with our internal IT teams.
You will work with various other teams at CZI and external partners including FP&A, Accounting Operations, Legal, Facilities, IT and external consultants. It is important that you have experience working with a variety of teams and partners and have a collaborative mindset.
We are looking for a senior accountant who has worked in a dynamic, fast paced environment, and is excited by the prospect of being involved in the creation of new processes and procedures. An ideal background would be experience at a top public accounting firm and then additional experience with month-end close in the tech industry or another fast-paced, high-growth industry. You must have experience in independent project management and be able to execute a project from start to finish. A CPA license (active or inactive) is also required.
A successful candidate will have experience working with a variety of accounting topics and knowledge of accounting guidance (GAAP). You should have experience in operational accounting in addition to being familiar with accounting principles and guidance issued by the FASB.
What You'll Do
- Work on the accounting of key month end close areas such as cash, accruals, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, leases, intercompany payables/receivables, AP, and T&E accruals and general other assets and liabilities
- Aid in the preparation of grants and investments accounting on an as-needed basis
- Create and update process documentation
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reporting
- Leverage Workday, Salesforce, and other systems to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of month end close and reporting processes
- Document and complete internal controls
- Aid in the preparation of annual audits

The Redwood City, CA base pay range for this role is $102,000 - $153,000. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process. Pay ranges outside Redwood City are adjusted based on cost of labor in each respective geographical market.
