The Team

Across our work in Science, Education, and within our communities, we pair technology with grantmaking, impact investing, and collaboration to help accelerate the pace of progress toward our mission. Our Central team provides the support needed to push this work forward.

The Central team at CZI consists of our Finance, People & DEI, Real Estate, Events, Workplace, Facilities, Security, Brand & Communications, Business Systems, Central Operations, Strategic Initiatives, and Ventures teams. These teams provide strategic support and operational excellence across the board at CZI.

The Opportunity

As the Program Operations Manager, DEIA you will be instrumental in operationalizing CZI’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) initiatives. This role focuses on implementing systems, processes, and infrastructure to scale DEIA efforts organization-wide, ensuring our goals are met efficiently and effectively.

In this position, you will manage, streamline and coordinate the implementation of DEIA projects and programs, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and embedding DEIA into the core operations of the business. You will collaborate across departments to ensure that DEIA strategies are embedded into key workflows and processes while tracking, analyzing, and reporting on progress towards DEIA milestones.

You will be responsible for the development and management of DEIA communications, vendor management, and outreach involving both internal and external partners.

What You'll Do

  • Project Management & Planning

    • Develop and manage project plans for DEIA initiatives, including timelines, toolkits, templates, databases, budgets, and resource allocation.
    • Track progress, identify potential roadblocks, and implement corrective actions to ensure projects are completed on time and within scope.
    • Plan and implement DEIA projects and programs, including defining project scope, goals, and deliverables; creating schedule and project timelines; tracking deliverables; monitoring and reporting on project progress; and evaluating and assessing results
    • Organize external strategic partnerships to support DEIA goals and development
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement DEIA programs and initiatives.

    Operations

    • Work across DEIA team to ensure that workflow is aligned to overarching goals and priorities
    • Facilitate the budgeting process, vendor onboarding, vendor renewals, and vendor management Point of Contact (POC)
    • Compile, analyze and maintain internal and external DEIA related data and metrics; own and maintain DEI dashboards to assess efficiency and effectiveness of DEIA initiatives and strategies.
    • Utilize organizational data and evidence-based practices to inform the development of DEIA-related interventions and training efforts, in partnership with Learning, Employee Experience & Development team
    • Proactively apply strategic thinking to identify and eliminate operational inefficiencies and gaps within the team, ensuring streamlined processes and enhanced productivity across the team.

    Communications

    • Foster collaborations with key internal partners and develop/design outreach communications that help elevate the impact of DEIA at CZI

What You'll Bring

  • 8+ years of professional experience, with at least 5 years driving diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in communities or organizations supporting operational activities
  • 6+ year of experience in leading and managing operations demonstrating strong organizational, strategic planning, and proactive problem-solving skills
  • Proven success in managing complex projects, programs, and operations including experience with project management tools and methodologies.
  • Strong operational, contract management, and project management skills, with the ability to implement scalable systems and processes that drive DEIA outcomes.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional collaboration and manage multiple stakeholders to deliver on DEIA initiatives within a dynamic organization.
  • Experience tracking and measuring DEIA goals and using data-driven insights to adjust and improve initiatives.
  • Deep understanding of DEIA concepts and their application within operational frameworks.
  • Extensive experience in designing visually appealing slide decks, presentations, documents, and creating complex spreadsheets.

Compensation

The Redwood City, CA base pay range for this role is $135,000 - $203,000. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process. Pay ranges outside Redwood City are adjusted based on cost of labor in each respective geographical market.
