Social Media Manager
Marketing & Communications
Redwood City, CA, USA
USD 138k-172k / year
The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative was founded in 2015 by Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg to harness the power of technology to pursue some of society’s most ambitious goals — from curing or preventing all disease to transforming how students learn.
At CZI, you’ll join a deeply collaborative, mission-driven community where your work helps drive breakthroughs across our flagship nonprofit organizations, Biohub and Learning Commons. Whether enabling scientific breakthroughs via open science and AI-powered biology or strengthening the tools teachers and students rely on every day, your contributions help turn bold ideas into real-world impact.
Our teams operate at the intersection of innovation and scale, building the infrastructure, partnerships, and capabilities that allow scientists, educators, and innovators to tackle some of the most complex challenges of our time — and to do so with urgency, integrity, and optimism.
The Team
The Biohub Communications team shapes how the world understands our science, our people, and our mission. We partner with researchers, engineers, and leaders across Biohub to tell stories that make cutting-edge science accessible, inspire collaboration, and highlight the breakthroughs that are advancing our understanding of biology and disease.
Our team brings together expertise in media relations, brand, content, creative, digital communications, and social media to engage audiences ranging from the global scientific community to policymakers, partners, and the public. We believe the most impactful communications are grounded in curiosity, creativity, and scientific integrity—and we use storytelling to build trust, spark conversation, and amplify the discoveries that have the potential to transform human health.
As part of the Marketing & Communications organization, you'll collaborate with a talented, mission-driven team that values experimentation, thoughtful strategy, and bold ideas. Together, we're building a distinctive voice for Biohub that reflects the ambition of our science and the people behind it.
The Opportunity
The Biohub social team is looking for a creative and collaborative Social Media Manager to shape how Biohub’s mission and story shows up across social media.
In this role, you’ll own the strategy and management of Biohub’s social channels — figuring out what belongs on which channel, for which audience, and why — while also staying close to the execution and day-to-day rhythm of running our channels. This role covers both moments that need a specific, campaign-style push (launches, major announcements, events) and the always-on work of building a steady cadence of social content that keeps our community engaged and excited about Biohub’s work in frontier AI and biology.
The ideal candidate is a low-ego collaborator, genuinely curious, brings forth a positive and engaged mindset, and has a bias for action and finding solutions. This role reports to the head of social and will be a part of the broader Marketing and Comms team.
What You'll Do
Strategy & Planning
- Develop channel-specific and audience-specific strategies that play to each social platform's strengths
- Implement social content strategy for major launches and campaigns, working closely with cross-functional teams and agency partners
- Build an engine of evergreen and always-on content, in partnership with creative collaborators
- Provide social strategy support around key events, launches, and announcements
Channel & Content Management
- Own and manage Biohub’s social editorial calendar across LinkedIn, X, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and Bluesky
- Ensure that creative execution and social strategy stays in sync
- Help ensure consistency of voice, tone, and brand across all social output
Analytics & Reporting
- Partner with the analytics team on social reporting, using data to inform and refine strategy and channel decisions
- Track performance across channels and campaigns, surfacing insights and recommendations to the broader team
What You'll Bring
- 5+ years of experience in social media strategy, ideally for a brand or at an agency
- Proven experience developing and executing channel-specific strategies across multiple platforms
- Experience managing always-on social presence alongside campaign or launch-driven work
- Comfort working with data and analytics to inform strategic decisions
- Strong collaboration skills — this role depends on close partnership with content producers, brand marketing partners, analytics, and other cross-functional leads
- An interest in science, technology, or mission-driven work — you don't need a science background, but you're curious and willing to learn
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work across a fast-moving, cross-functional environment with multiple stakeholders
