About This Role
Climate Power has an immediate opening for a Deputy Managing Director, Creative Development & Production, who will be responsible for the development and production of long-lead creative projects and deliverables. This role will also be responsible for managing the production lifecycle for all of Climate Power’s organic creative output and a portion of its paid content. The ideal candidate should bring experience in developing and producing creative projects and deliverables at all levels of scale and budget. They will also have experience managing various production workflows, mentoring junior staffers, coordinating with external partners and leadership across a cross functional organization, as well as a genuine passion for climate and advocacy storytelling.
The Deputy Managing Director, Creative Development & Production will play a significant role in helping to manage the day-to-day operations of Climate Power’s Creative Department by fielding pitches internally, strategizing with internal and, at times, external stakeholders on creative tactics to support organizational goals and milestones, providing feedback on creative execution to junior staff and external vendors and/or freelancers, and overseeing production partnerships. This individual will be the main point of contact for all Climate Power creative production from development to final delivery. The selected candidate must possess experience managing staff and strong multi-tasking skills.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Creative Strategy & Development: Alongside the Managing Director, strategize towards the development of big creative ideas that shine a light on the need for and benefits of climate action and the truth about Big Oil. Distill and translate nuanced and arcane messaging and insights into dynamic creative concepts that terminate in creative products that excite and move audiences to engage and act.
  • Creative Production Life-Cycle & Project Management: Operationalize, own, and execute the management of the pre-production, production, post-production, and final delivery lifecycle phases of long-lead creative projects and assets. Manage internal Climate Power staff and external freelancers and vendors, as well as both internal and external stakeholders, to ensure always-on-schedule delivery of projects and assets against tight deadlines.
  • People & Contract Management: Manage and mentor Climate Power Creative Department staff alongside the Managing Director, creating and encouraging an environment that facilitates professional growth and development. Manage external Climate Power Creative Department freelance production and design professionals and vendors, including owning a portion of contracting and invoicing responsibilities.
  • Budget Management: Alongside the Managing Director, develop and monitor the Creative Department’s budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and adherence to Climate Power’s financial processes and procedures. Track departmental expenses, prepare financial reports, and make strategic decisions to maximize the impact of long-lead creative projects, programs, and assets within budget constraints.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as need and capacity dictate.

Essential Qualifications

  • Eight years relevant prior work experience in creative development and production management either in-house or at an agency with experience in political creative execution.
  • Five years of people and/or project management experience - demonstrated success in leading and supervising diverse teams to meet deadlines and a track record of managing multiple complex projects concurrently.
  • Clear understanding of the political landscape, especially as it relates to climate action.
  • Deep understanding of how to work collaboratively across teams to develop, execute, and deliver high-quality creative solutions that visualize messaging, tell compelling stories, and inspire key audiences to act.
  • Innovative, experimental, and willing to stay up-to-date on best practices and trends in digital creative communication.
  • Strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to proactively self-start and work independently to move work forward to successful completion.
  • Strong people skills and an exceptional team player.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Proficiency in Google Workplace and project management software.

Location & Hours of Operations

  • Climate Power is a remote-first organization based in DC. This position can be located anywhere in the U.S., but must be able to work Monday - Friday 9 am - 6 pm EST, plus weekends and evenings as the work dictates.
Our Hiring Timeline and Process

An ideal start date would be on or before August 19, 2024.
Our interview process generally involves 3 rounds of interviews, ranging in length from 30-60 minutes. All interviews will be conducted via Google Meets or Zoom. Successful candidates that move forward in the hiring process, may be invited to complete a skills assessment activity (for which they will receive compensation) and will undergo a vetting process, including reference and background check to ensure cultural and political alignment.
