About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), and in close partnership with the leadership of The Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), the Senior Director will provide both the strategic leadership and tactical management necessary to effectively develop and execute a high-performing giving program for The Clinton Foundation, specifically focused on institutional revenue. This includes driving and closing CGI revenue and creating a robust pipeline of institutional support. The Senior Director will recruit and manage a portfolio of funders and prospects, as well as work in close partnership with the executive team.

The Development team works to secure the philanthropic resources necessary to advance the Foundation’s mission through its programs and operations. The team works closely with volunteers and colleagues from across the organization to present the Foundation’s case for support through gifts, grants, and sponsorships. Team members collaborate to maximize engagement and giving from individual donors and institutional funders alike.

Core Responsibilities

CGI Sponsorships and Grants

  • Recruit a portfolio of institutional funders/sponsors and prospects for CGI, with an emphasis on annual fundraising goals, as well as multi-year partnerships.
  • Collaborate on CGI funding proposals and required reports to funders as needed.
  • Works closely with the CGI team to identify, and secure funding from high-value funders of CGI.
  • Develops new business strategies, conducts market analysis, and improves methods, strategies, and tactics for securing funding for CGI – with a focus on bringing in new donors into the CGI pipeline
  • Coordinates donor engagement and solicitation strategies across the Development team
  • In partnership with CGI, manage stewardship of CGI donors and potential donors (sponsors and paid attendees) to fulfill contracted sponsor benefits as well as build relationships for future asks.
  • Support systems and processes for grants, grant cycles/deadlines, and portfolio/pipeline management regarding institutional funding sources.
  • Oversees CGI donor recognition programs, listings, and coordinate appropriate and timely gift/grant acknowledgements and submission of high-quality stewardship, financial, and/or technical reports.

Prospect Management & Operations

  • Contributes to the planning and execution of CGI events and convenings, especially as related to sponsor/funder relationship management in partnership with existing, program and events teams.
  • Institutes a process for proactively researching and engaging a new pipeline of potential prospects from identification through to solicitation.
  • Be the link between your team and other teams, departments and overall Foundation goals, activities and best practices

Minimum Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • CFRE or other specialized certification/designation is beneficial
  • At least 11 years of professional experience in the field in positions of increasing responsibility
  • At least 2 - 3 of those years must have been directing a team or multiple projects or a function
  • Demonstrated success in corporate/foundation giving/sponsorships, including significant experience with soliciting/closing large sponsorships/grants and related portfolio management required
  • Proficient with CRM systems, MSOffice, and Internet required
  • Knowledge of relevant online research tools (e.g., Foundation Directory Online) strongly preferred
  • Documented success in the preparation of six and seven-figure grant and sponsorship proposals

Compensation & Benefits

Our best estimate of the compensation range for this opportunity is $180 - 190K annually, depending on the experience you bring. This role is not eligible for overtime pay. This range is based on NYC market rates and may be adjusted if you will be working remotely.
