About Coefficient Giving

Coefficient Giving (formerly Open Philanthropy) is a philanthropic funder and advisor. Since 2014, we’ve directed over $5 billion in grants as part of our mission to help others as much as we can with the resources available to us. We work with a range of donors who share our commitment to cost-effective, high-impact giving. Our current funds include Science and Global Health R&D, Navigating Transformative AI, Biosecurity & Pandemic Preparedness, Abundance & Growth, Farm Animal Welfare, and more. In 2025, we recommended more than $1 billion to high-impact causes.

We’re proud of our track record:

  • We jump-started the field of AI safety and security and have played a vital role in addressing other existential threats, such as mirror bacteria.

  • Our grants to evidence-backed global health programs have saved over 100,000 lives, and our farm animal welfare grants have improved the lives of over 3 billion animals.

  • We supported late-stage clinical trials for the R21 malaria vaccine, now being scaled to protect millions of kids globally.

  • We were the earliest major funder of the YIMBY movement to build more housing. Our grantees have led the charge on major wins like City of Yes in New York, and SB 79 in California, which will enable hundreds of thousands of new housing units.

About the Office of the CEO

Our CEO, Alexander Berger, is responsible for advancing CG’s overall mission. This includes:

  • Setting high-level organization priorities

  • Owning key external relationships, including our work with Good Ventures (our founding partner) and other major donors

  • Hiring for senior roles and supporting the rest of the leadership team

  • External and internal communications about CG’s culture and impact

You can read Alexander’s most recent Letter from the CEO here.

The Office of the CEO supports Alexander by co-owning many of his priorities and setting him up to be as effective as possible. The team also supports the rest of CG’s leadership team. Abie Rohrig works as Chief of Staff in the Office of the CEO.

This is a high-trust, high-leverage role at a very exciting time for one of the world’s largest philanthropies. The Office of the CEO works closely with CG’s senior leadership and touches nearly everything CG does, from major donor relationships to org-wide priorities, and the person in this role will see how those decisions are made up close. The right person in this role will multiply how much Alexander — and, by extension, all of CG — can get done.

About the role

We’re hiring for a Senior Operations Associate in the Office of the CEO to support Alexander Berger’s operational and administrative work. This person would report to Abie Rohrig and work primarily to extend Alexander’s capacity and focus.

Your core responsibilities would include:

  • Calendar and time management: Own organizing Alexander's calendar by scheduling meetings with team members and external stakeholders, leading a calendar sync meeting with Alexander at the beginning of every week, and analyzing time allocation across key areas

  • Inbox and communications management: Help triage Alexander's inbox and learn to write effectively in his voice, maintaining fast response times and building systems to track and route incoming asks

  • General executive support: Handle the full range of day-to-day administrative needs, including travel planning, expenses and reimbursements, external appointments, and executive office software (Airtable, Asana, Toggl)

  • Meeting and event coordination: Coordinate with internal stakeholders to gather materials and information ahead of Alexander's meetings; write meeting agenda first drafts; track and execute follow-up action items; ensure that conferences, events, and in-person visits go smoothly

  • Contact and relationship management: Maintain a comprehensive database of Alexander's professional contacts and proactively surface relevant meetings and events based on current priorities and travel

  • Operational improvement: Identify administrative bottlenecks and develop solutions, including AI integration; own special projects that increase efficiency and strengthen internal knowledge management

We’re looking for someone with the following traits, you should apply if you:

  • Are an operator. You're resourceful, make things work under constraints, and allocate your effort well — you move quickly through low-stakes work and go deeper where the stakes are higher. You treat every system you touch as something to be continuously improved, and you move fast to fix things.

  • Care about speed. You prioritize quickly and, when appropriate, action items as soon as you get inbound.

  • Are excited about Coefficient Giving's mission and its cause areas. You are enthusiastic about working in an organization that values a wide variety of viewpoints and navigates difficult tradeoffs between cause areas (especially our work on navigating transformative AI).

  • Have strong interpersonal skills. You communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively across a wide range of audiences, ranging from new hires to senior executives and external visitors.

  • Work in a responsive, agile way. You stay calm when conditions change and can improvise and pivot quickly when priorities shift.

  • Are excited about operations and administrative work to support principals. You understand that proactive and forward-thinking operational work is crucial for principals to achieve their goals. You anticipate needs, plan ahead, and make sure that balls don’t get dropped. You’re also comfortable with providing constructive criticism to help principals stay on track.

  • Are curious and proactive about using AI tools and automation. You look for ways to apply these to improve how you work.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess many of the skills and experiences described above. However, there is no such thing as a “perfect” candidate. If you are on the fence about applying because you are unsure whether you are qualified, we would strongly encourage you to apply.

Role details & benefits

Unfortunately, we aren’t able to sponsor visas for these roles, so candidates must have U.S. work authorization to apply.

If you lack U.S. work authorization, please submit a general application instead. Similarly, if you are only interested in senior/management roles, or roles in research or grantmaking, please apply through the general application.

  • Compensation: The baseline compensation for this role is $178,825.00, distributed as a base salary of $155,500.00 and an unconditional 401(k) grant of $23,325.00 for U.S. hires based in the San Francisco Bay Area or Washington, D.C.

    • There would be a 10% downward adjustment for candidates not based in one of our hubs (SF or D.C.). There would also be a 5% downward adjustment for candidates based in New York who are willing to work from our coworking hub at least one day per week.

  • Time zones and location: You can work remotely, though this role would need to align significantly with Pacific Time hours (5 hours/day).

    • We prefer hires to be based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and will support candidates with relocation costs. However, we'll consider candidates based elsewhere who are willing to travel to the Bay Area at least once a quarter.

  • Benefits: Our benefits package includes:

    • Excellent health insurance (we cover 100% of premiums within the U.S. for you and any eligible dependents) and an employer-funded Health Reimbursement Arrangement for certain other personal health expenses.

    • Dental, vision, and life insurance for you and your family.

    • Four weeks of PTO recommended per year.

    • Four months of fully paid family leave.

    • A generous and flexible expense policy — we encourage staff to expense the ergonomic equipment, software, and other services that they need to stay healthy and productive. This policy also includes a productivity benefit, which provides a set amount for staff to expense items that enhance their productivity.

    • A continual learning policy that encourages staff to spend time on professional development with related expenses covered.

    • Support for remote work — we’ll cover a remote workspace outside your home if you need one, or connect you with a Coefficient Giving coworking hub in your city. We currently have offices in San Francisco and Washington, D.C., and multiple staff working from several other cities in the U.S. and elsewhere.

    • We can’t always provide every benefit we offer U.S. staff to international hires, but we’re working on it (and will usually provide cash equivalents of any benefits we can’t offer in your country).

We aim to employ people with many different experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds who share our passion for accomplishing as much good as we can. We are committed to creating an environment where all employees have the opportunity to succeed, and we do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or any other legally protected status.

If you need assistance or an accommodation due to a disability, or have any other questions about applying, please continue to contact jobs@coefficientgiving.org.

Please apply by 5 p.m. Pacific Time on Sunday, July 5th to be considered.

U.S.-based operations staff are typically employed by Coefficient Giving LLC, which is not a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. As such, this role is unlikely to be eligible for public service loan forgiveness programs.
