Organizational Overview
Collective Power for Reproductive Justice (https://collectivepowerrj.org/) is a national reproductive rights and justice organization dedicated to educating, mentoring, and inspiring new generations of advocates, leaders, and supporters. Combining activism, organizing, leadership training, and reproductive rights movement building, Collective Power promotes an inclusive agenda that advances reproductive rights and health, and social and economic justice.
Responsibilities:
The Program Manager – Collective Rising (PM-CR) manages one of Collective Power’s national leadership development projects, the Collective Rising paid summer internship program, under the direction of CPRJ's Director of Programs (DP). The PM-CR will manage annual efforts to recruit, select, place, train, and support undergraduate students for our summer internship program, working closely with program alumni. The PM-CR is the lead liaison with internship host sites and is responsible for recruiting new sites, communicating with existing site staff, and managing relationships with ally organizations, ensuring goals are aligned across programs. The PM-CR will develop program outreach plans, implement evaluation efforts and develop evaluation data, and coordinate participation and programming for this project to meet organizational goals and advance CPRJ’s mission of supporting new leadership for the reproductive health rights and justice movement. They manage a program budget and track all expenditures. The PM-CR recruits, trains, and supervises a national training and outreach team of internship program alumni who assist with the cohort recruitment, selection, training, and support, and supervises the Programs Coordinator on providing administrative support to the program.
As a member of the Programs Team, the PM will provide input on Collective Power's programming, as well as help organize activist convenings and support other program initiatives and program fundraising as needed, and represent Collective Power with allies and supporters.
Essential Functions
Management of the National Summer Internship Program – 70%
Program Outreach and Evaluation
- Serve as an ambassador for the internship program to academic departments and centers; potential host site organizations, and other community partners;
- Conducts site visits to new and existing host sites; develops local support networks for program participants;
- Works with communications manager to develop comprehensive outreach plans for the application cycle, reaching potential interns, host sites, recommenders, organizational partners, and other ambassadors;
- Implement program evaluation efforts, including post-internship follow up with students and exit interviews, and post-internship evaluations with host sites; collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative evaluation data;
- Works with fundraising staff to identify program alumni to support fundraising for the internship program.
Program Recruitment and Selection
- Conduct in-person outreach as needed as well as outreach through live webinars and online platforms;
- Counsel prospective participants about their applications and the selection process;
- Manage host sites, including recruiting new host sites and managing host site applications; retaining existing host sites, and regularly communicating with host site staff;
- Recruit, train, and supervise a national training and outreach team who assist with the cohort recruitment, selection, training, and support;
- Manage the participant selection process, including overseeing implementation of application software; creating and managing an application review committee with national training team; implementing review protocols and developing and applying selection criteria;
- Determine appropriate placements that meet host organization needs while providing selected students with appropriate growth opportunities.
Training and Student Support
- Create trainings to support program participants, including selecting and training alumni facilitators for the program orientation and facilitating the training;
- Work with organizational leadership to implement risk management strategies;
- Provide support to help mediate and resolve issues arising during internship placements and is the primary point of contact for student participants and host organization supervisors throughout the summer.
Program Support – 20%
- Provide support and content input for other CPRJ programming and new initiatives and projects as needed;
- Participate and provide support for fundraising efforts;
- Supervise and mentor students who are CPRJ interns, work study students, or alumni of CPRJ projects;
- Participate and represent CPRJ in activist coalitions and at national meetings;
- Conduct training and provide facilitation for peer organizations and networks.
Other duties as assigned – 10%
Qualifications
We will consider exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below
- 3-5 years of experience, including leading reproductive justice movement building, organizing and/or scholarship;
- Experience working with undergraduate students and/or in youth development required;
- Existing connections and ongoing participation in networks with national reproductive justice activists, organizers, and educators is preferred;
- Alignment with mission and values;
- Meeting facilitation and/or public speaking experience;
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and work successfully with persons of diverse backgrounds, including people with different racial, ethnic and class backgrounds, people of different genders, and people with disabilities; experience supporting college students, especially students of color, first generation college students, and/or LGBTQ students preferred.
- Must be detail-oriented; able to handle high volume of work; effectively prioritize, multi-task and problem-solve; pay attention to deadlines and details; have good organizational skills; communicate clearly and confidently; must demonstrate flexibility and work well under pressure;
- Strong project management skills and demonstrated experience implementing programs and/or learning opportunities for students; experience managing program budgets;
- Must have word processing and data entry skills using Microsoft programs (especially Word and Excel) and Google documents; ability to relay information, messages and correspondence in timely and organized manner; experience using spreadsheets and databases.
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends and overnight travel throughout the year to national and international conferences, convenings, trainings, and foundation and donor visits. During the summer when the internship cohort is in the field, the PM may travel up to 50% of the time.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- The physical demands described for this position are that of a typical office environment. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions. Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time in front of a computer screen is an essential aspect of the position. There may be a need to lift and/or move materials or equipment.
- Work will be performed at the employee’s home office, with occasional travel (as described above).
- Schedule: Collective Power operates with a 32-hour work week. Our staff may choose to work a 4-day or 5-day week, but must be available during our core work hours, which are generally 9 am – 4 pm Eastern time.
Compensation and Benefits
- Compensation: The salary range for this position is $65,000-$75,000. Salary is commensurate with experience.
