Position Overview
Community Solutions is seeking a Multimedia Design Specialist to lead graphic and collateral design, and social-native video editing work for the campaign to drive a shift in public opinion that there are solutions to homelessness and progress can be made. This role will translate complex data, systems change, and policy work into accessible visual content, including infographics, diagrams, and designed reports. And will create digital-first short-form video content, memes, and audiograms optimized for new media channels. This person will need to produce high-quality creative on tight turnaround for both the national Community Solutions brand channels as well as key campaign cities.
This position will report to the Communications Director and work in close collaboration with the Social Media Communications Specialist and broader Campaigns team, as well as the Strategy and Evaluation team. This contract will run from start date through December 31, 2026, with a possibility for extension.
Defining Success
This position is successful if:
- Community Solutions’ online visual presence evolves from “native to brand identity” to “native to the algorithm” leveraging platform-specific 2026 trending content formats, driving uptick in engagement, and delivering a new story on solutions to homelessness
- For every white paper Community Solutions releases shareable design products that simplify complexity into visuals tailored to non-expert audiences
- During rapid response breaking news moments, Community Solutions moves swiftly from concept to production to distribution, publishing design assets that tell a story within 1 business day
- With a focus on creative and native content, Community Solutions is leading the sector in multimedia storytelling and is recognized for clarity, precision, and speed, helping shift online discourse about homelessness from confusion and despair to knowledge, possibility, and engagement
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Creative Direction & Design
- Translate complex data, research, systems evaluation, and policy briefs into infographics, charts, diagrams, and visual explainers optimized to platform algorithms and audience
- Design merch and print/out of home collateral (e.g. hats, sweatshirts, wheatpasting flyers, billboards, door hangers etc.) specific to city campaigns and brands
- Prepare designed briefs, reports, and presentations for funders, Board of Directors, and other key stakeholders
- Apply strong information design principles (hierarchy, flow, scale, accuracy) to ensure clarity and fidelity to source material
- Independently interpret written briefs and ask targeted questions to confirm technical accuracy
Multimedia & Video Editing
- Edit short-form, social-native videos, including trimming and stitching footage, captioning audio, and adding text overlays, images, and basic motion elements
- Optimize assets for platform specifications and accessibility standards
Rapid-Response & Breaking-News Production
- Produce high-quality graphics on tight turnaround during breaking-news moments, narrative spikes, or policy developments
- Adapt visuals quickly across platforms and formats (static posts, carousels, stories, simple motion graphics)
- Maintain reusable illustration and design components to enable speed without sacrificing rigor
- Balance speed, clarity, accuracy, and creativity in high-pressure environments
Design Systems & Collaboration
- Build and maintain templated design systems (e.g., Illustrator, Figma, Canva) to support consistency, rapid production, and accessibility to networks of distributed partners
- Provide guidance to staff and partners on the use of templates and visual systems
- Collaborate cross-functionally to align visual outputs with narrative strategy and technical substance
- Establish intake systems for receiving, processing, and delivering on design requests from cross-functional internal teams
Experience and Qualifications
- Design related degree, training, and/or 3+ years experience in graphic design and multimedia production
- Portfolio demonstrating experiencing in producing infographics, graphics/carousels, graphic illustration, motion animation, brand designs, advertising creative, and/or digital-first video content
- Advanced proficiency in professional design software, including: Adobe Illustrator (or equivalent vector illustration tools), Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Figma, or similar
- Video editing skills for social platforms (e.g., Premiere Pro, CapCut, Final Cut, or similar)
- Strong understanding of accessibility best practices (contrast, legibility, captioning)
- Consumes content as much as creates content; ability to identify new content format trends and adapt and adopt new styles
- Experience integrating AI tools to support the process of creative ideation and drive efficiencies in production
- Ability to work quickly and accurately under tight deadlines; experience working in fast-paced communications or campaign environments preferred
- Ability to ideate independently as well as produce toward defined specifications
- Familiarity with homelessness, housing policy, or complex public systems preferred
- A belief that homelessness can and must be solved
Salary:
The salary range for this position is between $76,634 and $85,149. The actual salary is commensurate with the candidate's experience.
These qualifications are critical. However, additional training and support will be available to the hired applicant to ensure success.
