New York Organizer

Dayenu: A Jewish Call to Climate Action seeks a half-time New York Organizer to help build a spiritually rooted Jewish climate movement.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic young organization that is mobilizing the American Jewish community to confront the climate crisis with spiritual audacity and bold political action.

The New York Organizer will grow the number and impact of Dayenu Circles in New York state, coach Dayenu Circle leaders and members, build relationships with partner organizations, and organize events, actions, and trainings.

Location: New York State; NYC Tri-state area preferred
Position Type: Part Time (20 hrs/week)

Reporting Structure: The position reports to the Director of Organizing

Responsibilities

  • Grow the number and impact of Dayenu Circles and partners in New York state, with a particular focus on growth in Long Island, Westchester, and Brooklyn.
  • Recruit, develop relationships with, and coach Dayenu Circle leaders and members.
  • Build relationships with partner organizations, track state climate policy, represent Dayenu at NY state and local legislative and fossil fuel finance coalitions, and recommend strategies and actions for Dayenu to support or lead.
  • Facilitate structures of support and data and communications systems.
  • Organize events, actions, and trainings.
  • Facilitate structures of support for Dayenu Circles, and data and communications systems.
  • Work with Dayenu’s Young People Organizer to support leadership opportunities for young New Yorkers and Jews of Color.
  • Some travel throughout New York state is expected.

Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years professional organizing experience
  • Minimum 1 year experience working in coalitions or managing partner relationships
  • A track record of working effectively with people across lines of difference and a demonstrated commitment to anti-racist practice.
  • Strong listening and interpersonal communication skills including in person and over phone, video, email, and text communication
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to delivering strategic and high quality work with integrity and good judgment
  • Passionate about Dayenu’s mission and committed to growing a Jewish climate movement
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Experience working in/with the Jewish community and/or experience working on, or familiarity with, climate or climate justice movements preferred

Compensation & Benefits

The salary for this position is $35,000. We offer a competitive benefits package, including vacation and sick days, national and Jewish holidays off, health insurance stipend, professional development, a generous office/home office subsidy, and more. This role requires full status to work in the United States and willingness to provide employment verification as required.
