Dayenu: A Jewish Call to Climate Action seeks a part-time, temporary Southern California Jewish Climate Summit Organizer to plan and execute a multigenerational, multiracial, and multi-ethnic day-long in-person organizing summit for Jewish climate activists in SoCal in spring 2024. The draft goals of the Southern California Jewish Climate Summit are to:
- Build relationships among Jewish climate activists and volunteers in SoCal;
- Make shared plans to educate voters about the California Oil and Gas Well; Regulations Referendum that will be on California ballots in November 2024;
- Develop leadership and organizing skills of participants;
- Seed new Dayenu Circles (akin to chapters) for ongoing action, and
- Share joy and hope through music, art and ritual.
The Southern California Jewish Climate Summit Organizer will follow up from the Summit to support leaders and activists to take action with the California Oil and Gas Well Regulations Referendum campaign and build their Dayenu Circles. Time permitting, the Organizer will also support Dayenu leaders in Central and Northern California and represent Dayenu in statewide coalitions for other Dayenu priority campaigns.
The position starts as soon as Monday January 22, 2024 and runs for up to 26 weeks (through July 19, 2024). The salary for this position is $370/week for an average of 10 hours/week. Some weeks may require more than 10 hours, and some less. The position reports to Dayenu’s Director of Organizing Vicki Kaplan. The position is based in Southern California, with preference for Los Angeles.

Qualifications:
- Experience coordinating a planning team or organizing committee.
- Social justice organizing experience.
- Experience running a recruitment effort for an in-person multi-hour summit or conference for more than 100 people.
- Experience creating an exciting program for a summit or conference.
- A track record of working effectively with people across lines of difference and a commitment to anti-racist practice.
- Strong listening skills and interpersonal communication including over in person. and over phone, video, email, and text/messaging app communication.
- Works well independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and Sundays.
- Commitment to Dayenu’s mission.
- Experience in operations or logistics for in-person events preferred.
- Experience working with college students and young people a plus.
- Experience in the climate movement a plus.
Role Description

Build and lead an Organizing Committee
- Recruit a team representing different constituencies.
- Support, coach, and celebrate volunteer leaders and partners.

Run weekly planning meetings, communicate action steps, and follow up.
- Secure a venue and date and manage on-site logistics

Run a recruitment drive
- Ensure 100-200 participants attend the full event. You’ll have support from others at Dayenu for this!

Delegate recruitment roles and goals to volunteer leaders.

Develop the run of show in partnership with staff, partners, and key leaders.
- Recruit speakers, presenters, artists and facilitators.

With Dayenu staff, identify calls to action in the program.

Follow up from the Summit to support leaders and activists to take action with the California Oil and Gas Well Regulations Referendum campaign and other Dayenu priority campaigns, and build their Dayenu Circles.
- Time permitting, support Dayenu leaders in Central and Northern CA.
- Time permitting, represent Dayenu in statewide coalitions.
