The Democratic Governors Association (DGA), the campaign committee responsible for electing and supporting Democratic Governors, is seeking a Deputy Candidate Services Director for the 2026 cycle. This position will report to the DGA’s Candidate Services Director and work within the DGA’S political department.
The Deputy Candidate Services Director will work with gubernatorial campaigns to optimize their own fundraising programs. This position will not be responsible for raising money for the campaigns or the DGA, but instead be charged with providing strategic support and guidance to gubernatorial campaigns so they maximize their own fundraising. This position will require work outside regular 9-5, M-F business hours, and may require travel to one or more of the 36 states with gubernatorial races in 2026.
The salary for this position is $120,000 annually before benefits and applicable withholdings. Candidates who are comfortable handling the following responsibilities and have the appropriate skillsets at the senior level are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Help finance directors analyze and improve their fundraising program – building staff and capacity, diagnosing problems, and helping solve operational and personnel issues.
- Identify effective campaign fundraising staff and help train and build finance teams.
- Think through challenges and opportunities of each race to help finance directors plot their fundraising strategies effectively.
- Work with campaign managers to find and hire finance directors and provide as needed support as managers oversee finance operations.
- Collaborate with finance directors to ensure realistic and appropriate goals and projections, making sure cashflow projections are accurate and allow campaign managers to properly budget and spend in final stretches.
- Identify and share best practices and common pitfalls across different campaigns.
- Work hand-in-hand with senior members of the DGA political team on budgeting, cashflow, and strategic spending in races.
- Effectively communicate concerns, problems, and potential solutions with campaign managers and internally with the DGA political team.
- Stay up-to-date with current fundraising tools and platforms and share available tools with finance directors and relevant campaign staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least 2+ cycles of experience as Finance Director - one of which must be on a statewide campaign. Preference given to Governor’s race or other statewide races;
- Experience working with candidates and elected officials at high level;
- Understanding of unique challenges to gubernatorial fundraising;
- Experience running call time operations, event programs, bundlers, finance committees, managing fundraising consultants and teams, and using all available finance tools;
- Ability to communicate effectively with campaign managers and candidates on fundraising needs and way to improve a program;
- Flexibility to not think one-size-fits-all and know when compromise is needed to achieve goals;
- Confidence to think creatively about complex campaign problems and willingness to find unique solutions that fit each campaign’s specific needs;
- Ability to work collaboratively and build trust across internal and external teams, representing the DGA well;
- Willingness to travel to fulfill primary responsibilities;
- Must be comfortable with long, irregular hours during peak seasons.

Closing
The DGA offices and this role are based in downtown Washington, DC with a hybrid work protocol. If you’re selected for this role, you’ll be required to work in office 1-2 days a week.
