The National Press Secretary is the primary on the record spokesperson of the Democratic National Committee to all national reporters. This role works to develop positive relationships with members of the media and pitches both short and long-term stories.

Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the Communications Director to develop and execute a communications plan and strategy;
  • Carry out special projects and message events;
  • Help manage the distribution and quality of written materials every day, from drafting to delivery;
  • Monitor breaking news and identify opportunities to accomplish the DNC’s message goals.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the department and the DNC's mission.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum B.A. in Journalism, Communications, Political Science, Public Policy, related field, or equivalent experience;
  • 5-7 years or 3 cycles of related experience in press;
  • Excellent writing and research skills;
  • Experience with online communications and research tools;
  • Extensive social networking skills;
  • Previous on the record experience required.
The National Press Secretary position will require travel, which could be up to 25% of the time.
The starting salary for the National Press Secretary position is $130,000, on an annualized basis, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, exempt position, that may require work on weekends.
