From August 19-22, 2024, the City of Chicago will be the epicenter of a historic event- the Democratic National Convention. Democrats from all over the country will gather to nominate President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for re-election. The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is assembling a diverse team to aid in planning for daytime activities at the McCormick Place Convention Center.
During Convention week, McCormick Place, the Convention Center, will be the home to most daytime activities. The Democratic National Committee (DNC) organizes DNC member meetings, panels, training, and many other events each day of the Convention.
The DNC is seeking a Deputy Director of Convention Services to support the logistics within the Convention Center. This individual will ensure that room set ups are to the specifications needed, A/V needs, and for ADA requirements. They will develop a meal plan for staff and volunteers. This person will coordinate these activities with various service vendors and stakeholders for the meetings and events and execute vendor contracts and payment of invoices.
The work schedule includes nights, weekends, and holidays and this role is from June 30, 2024 through August 31, 2024.
The person serving in this role should have experience with coordinating large-scale events or advance work. Ability to maintain strong client relations and ensure that Convention specifications are communicated and executed. Experience reading, and interpreting space plans and maps for information and execution. Strong data management and scheduling skills, with the ability to track and manage furniture, AV, and staging requests. Comfortable working under pressure, remaining flexible and adjusting to situations as they occur, and meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Thorough knowledge of Google Suite is needed.
The Deputy Director of Convention Services will require travel, which could be more than 50% of the time.
The compensation for this role is $20,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
