The Deputy Press Secretary for Hispanic Media will support the strategic outreach to national and local Hispanic Media. In coordination with the Director of Hispanic Media, the Deputy Press Secretary will draft and edit rapid response materials, including talking points, statements, and releases; organize press calls; distribute materials to reporters; and help translate press materials into Spanish. Applicants should have excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Spanish and English, a strong ability to multitask, and be ready to work in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Work in coordination with the communications team, including spokespeople, rapid response, and states team members to craft and execute the DNC’s national press strategy for Spanish language media and platforms;
- Carry out special projects and message events focused on Spanish language and Latino constituency;
- Help manage the distribution and quality of written materials daily – including talking points, statements, Op-Eds, and remarks in Spanish where needed.
- Collaborate with regional press secretaries to identify opportunities in the states for specific Spanish language and/or Latino-focused special projects, messaging and events.
- Monitor breaking news and identify opportunities to accomplish the DNC’s messaging goals;
- Other duties as assigned to support the department and the DNC's mission.
Qualifications
- Fluency in Spanish
- 2-4 years of experience in political communications or similar
- Ability and desire to keep up with the news cycle;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills across multiple media; and,
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment.
This is a full-time, exempt position that may require work on weekends. The Deputy Press Secretary position will require travel, which could be up to 15% of the time.
The starting salary for the Deputy Press Secretary is 68,000, on an annualized basis, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position has an end date of November 15th, 2024.
