The Speechwriter will serve as the lead writer for the Communications Department including drafting daily talking points and statements and serving as a speechwriter to the Chair and other senior leadership of the DNC. The speechwriter will also work with senior DNC officials to manage and coordinate the daily message for surrogates, press, finance and political staff. The speechwriter is responsible for writing a variety of materials to support the communications department, including but not limited to: talking points, speeches, public-facing documents, memos, weekly issue updates, scripts, blog posts, web copy, marketing materials, op-eds and more.

Responsibilities:

  • Craft, write, and distribute the DNC’s daily message guidance to top talkers and allies;
  • Draft talking points, remarks, and op-eds for DNC internal and external surrogates; and,
  • Draft statements or other documents for the DNC Chair and other officials.

Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of experience in communications or writing or similar field;
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, creativity, and strong attention to detail;
  • Excellent time and project management skills; and,
  • Willingness to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
The starting salary for the Speechwriter position is $90,000, on an annualized basis, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, exempt position, that may require work on weekends. This position is in the bargaining unit represented by SEIU Local-500.
Travel: This position requires up to 5% travel both in the Washington, D.C. area and across the country to attend and support meetings and events.
