The Traveling Press Secretary is the primary communications staffer for the Chair of the Democratic National Committee, working closely with the Communications Director and executive leadership team to provide communications, staffing, and strategic media support to the Chair. In this role, the traveling press secretary will travel with the Chair across the country and engage with both national and local reporters – across media platforms including print, TV, radio, and new media – to elevate the DNC and articulate the Chair’s vision for the party.
Responsibilities:
- Works closely with the senior communications team, including the National Press Secretary and Communications Director, to develop and execute a communications plan and strategy;
- Manage on-the-road press events and media engagement for the Chair
- Book, prep, and staff for interviews and public events
- Manage the Chair’s briefings and materials
- Coordinate across departments, including scheduling and mobilization
- Coordinate logistics for interviews, including TV
- Carry out special projects and message events
- Other duties as assigned to support the department and the DNC's mission.
Qualifications:
- Minimum B.A. in Journalism, Communications, Political Science, Public Policy, related field, or equivalent experience;
- 5 years or 2 cycles of related experience in press;
- Excellent writing and research skills;
- Experience with online communications and research tools;
- Extensive social networking skills;
- Previous on the record experience required.
The starting salary for the National Press Secretary position is $90,000, on an annualized basis, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, exempt position, that may require work on weekends. This position is in the bargaining unit represented by SEIU Local-500.
Travel: The Traveling Press Secretary position will require extensive travel, which could be up to 75% of the time.
