The Director of Strategic Planning is a member of the DNC’s communications team and works closely with the DNC’s Communications Director and the Senior Advisor for Message, Mobilization, and Strategy (War Room Director) to develop and implement the War Room’s priorities, systems, and cross-departmental planning. The Director of Strategic Planning will ensure that the department’s outputs align with long-term goals.
This role reports directly to the Communications Director and will be instrumental in streamlining collaboration across the DNC’s communications, research, and mobilization operations to leverage both major tent pole and rapid response moments.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive strategic planning processes within the communications team, setting phased goals, tracking progress, and identifying gaps or redundancies across verticals.
  • Support interdepartmental convening across the DNC to further align strategies, tactics, and opportunities (e.g., DNC War Room) and ensure timely collaboration and effective workflow management.
  • Design and implement systems that improve internal communication, knowledge sharing, and operational efficiency within the communications department.
  • Manage and coordinate high-priority projects, including the planning and execution of major initiatives, written products, and public-facing events.
  • Develop internal project timelines and accountability systems to ensure on-time delivery of communications initiatives.
  • Support the Communications Director in managing team bandwidth, triaging urgent priorities, and ensuring staff are resourced and informed.
  • Serve as strategic partner to the heads of Communications, Research, and Mobilization in planning for the midterm elections and the 2028 presidential election.
  • Manage the approval of outbound materials from the War Room, using strong political judgement and exceptional writing abilities.
  • Support the preparation of briefing materials, strategy memos, and internal communications for department-wide meetings and special projects.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, transparency, and collaboration across the communications team through regular feedback loops, systems improvements, and staff development initiatives.Supports the communications department’s budget management.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in political communications, including experience in high-pressure environments. Campaign, congressional and/or Committee experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with a variety of campaign components including communications, organizing/mobilization, political, data, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and keep up with the daily news cycle.
  • Proven record of managing multiple deadlines and responsibilities.
The starting salary for the Director of Strategic Planning position is 110,000 on an annualized basis, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, exempt position, that may require work on weekends.
This position requires limited travel, which could be up to 5% of the time.
