Salary: $75,000 - $85,000/annually, generous benefits package

Location: Madison or Milwaukee, WI (Please note: Employment with the Democratic Party of Wisconsin requires residence or willingness to relocate to the state of Wisconsin.)

The Opportunity: As the Deputy Political Director, you will work with the Political Director to manage and build the Democratic Party’s political department. You will assist in maintaining relationships with elected officials, candidates, party leaders, members, volunteers, and partner organizations. You will also assist in the execution of National Convention, State Convention, and other department special projects that occur throughout all teams.

Job Responsibilities:

  • In consultation with the Political Director, manage the Democratic Party of Wisconsin's Party Affairs and Membership Programs.
  • Assist in managing the Democratic Party of Wisconsin's relationships with elected officials, candidates, party leaders, members, volunteers, and partner organizations.
  • Lead, plan and execute all logistics (both event-building and procedural) for the annual DPW State Convention following all governing functions outlined in our governing documents and coordinating with staff across departments on programming.
  • Assist in planning and executing activities for the Democratic National Convention, including the delegation selection process, communications, and other hosted events.
  • Assist with the oversight of the internal political affairs of the Party, including membership, state convention, regular Party leadership meetings, and our delegate selection process.
  • Construct key initiatives and systems to support political programming throughout the organization including but not limited to party affairs and membership
  • Assist in the execution of down-ballot candidate support.
  • Assist the Political Director in community outreach and engagement on behalf of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin to maintain positive relationships and increase the parties accessibility to all communities.
  • Manage direct reports in all aspects of their work and support their success in the role by conducting relevant coaching conversations, providing and receiving feedback, and creating an inclusive and engaging team culture. More specific tasks could include but are not limited to:
    • Managing and reviewing time off requests
    • Hiring new team members
    • Having constructive conversations with team members on performance
    • Building rapport and trust within your team
    • Leading projects and delegating tasks
  • Execute and manage special projects assigned to the Political Department as directed that can range from State Convention assignments, Surrogate Events, Story Teller Recruitment, and more. (Note: Political Department staff members often are involved in projects that have a connection to our work but do vary based on the time of year.)
  • On year requirements include working outside of normal work hours; including canvassing and other election-preparation as necessary.

  • Confident Decision Making - Ability to make and suggest clear decisions for programming and political situations.
  • Strong Project Direction - Experience creating winning plans for community wide projects, political or advocacy campaigns.
  • Dedication to Social and Racial Justice - Commitment to social and racial justice and an understanding of the issues facing communities of color, immigrant communities, and low to moderate income families.
  • Ability to Multitask - Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with strict deadlines.
  • Strong Written and Interpersonal Communication Skills - Ability to carefully create and maintain effective communication with staffers and individuals outside of WisDems.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Experience effectively building meaningful relationships with Elected officials, local influencers, government agencies, businesses, non-profits, or community organizations.
  • Experience in community outreach for a political campaign, government department, business or community organization.
  • Access to reliable transportation and willingness to travel statewide.
