Responsibilities
How business development leads at DevResults spend most of their time
- Exemplifying our values and culture
- Developing and maintaining relationships as a technology advisor with a genuine interest in clients’ success
- Executing the DevResults sales pipeline throughout the proposal capture process; from identifying new opportunities; to CRM management; to the review process; to writing of the technical, financial, and personnel sections; to submission
- Leading multi-stage demos and technical sales meetings with decision makers
- Representing DevResults at industry events, conferences, and meetings
- Collaborating closely with client services team on major strategic decisions
- You will be based in DC and will generally work from our office on Thursdays, but will occasionally travel domestically and internationally
Requirements
Long-term success at DevResults comes with these traits.
- Be knowledgeable. You will need to learn our software and domain inside and out.
- Be independent. We're a remote company across many time zones so you'll be expected to self-direct, independently manage your time, and report back on progress. We care more about what you accomplish than the hours you clock in.
- Be enthusiastic. Advocate for things you feel strongly about, then commit and execute whether or not decisions go your way. Volunteer eagerly and take your turn when necessary. Find a balance between working on things you're passionate about and doing tedious things that benefit the team or our users.
- Be empathetic. You contribute constructively to discussions, look out for your teammates’ well-being, and exercise respect when interacting with others.
- Be engaged. Invest time and energy in our team, the processes we operate by, the culture we live, the software we create, and the service we provide. You’ll communicate with clients, pair with technical teammates, help plan team retreats, and propose new processes.
Must-have skills
Our ideal candidate has developed each of these skills over their career.
- Aptitude for working on a small team. You’ll be the tenth team member, will wear a lot of hats, and will face problems that no one knows the solution to. Success in this role will involve carving out your own niche and taking on responsibilities outside of this job description to work on projects you believe will further our company’s objectives.
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience selling IT, cloud solutions, SaaS, or enterprise-level B2B software/hardware
- Live proposal management and drafting, often for several live opportunities at once
- Business pipeline development and tracking - developing strategies to identify new opportunities and coordinates the tracking from start to finish
- Identifying problems on your own, taking initiative in finding solutions, and implementing them in concert with your team
- Speaking in public about technical work
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail, including writing and editing proposals, blog posts, and marketing materials
- Effective at working remotely with colleagues and maintaining your productivity without going to an office every day
- Interested applicants must hold the right to live and work in the USA
Nice-to-have skills
We're excited to meet applicants with these additional skills.
- Domain knowledge. You have worked with international development, humanitarian, or other social good organizations and/or monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning (MERL) teams before. These are the fields our clients work in.
- Leadership experience. A leader takes responsibility for their team's morale and performance. We're better when each of us develops ideas, seeks buy-in, and shepherds goals across the finish line.
- Fluency in languages other than English.
- Marketing experience. You have experience conducting research and developing strategies for reaching target audiences, from fully executing marketing campaigns, to CRMs, to leveraging social media platforms to engage with contracting stakeholders.
- Content marketing experience. You’ve developed content strategies and produced high quality strategic communications for a niche audience.
- US federal government sales. You have in-depth knowledge of federal government procurement processes, contracting vehicles, strategy, and partnerships. You have a winning track record and a preexisting network for finding and responding to federal procurement opportunities.
What success looks like
- Day 1. You'll get your computer set up, get an introduction to some high level concepts, and we'll walk through our software together.
- Week 1. We'll do a deeper dive on the product and you’ll practice your first demo with us. You’ll get a tour of our sales pipeline.
- Month 1. You'll be able to tackle some small, well-defined tasks on your own. You'll be able to contribute to proposals and navigate internal systems. You'll have started contributing ideas for creating new partnerships. You'll have gone through our user training so you'll understand the world as it exists to our users. You'll still have a lot of questions though, and you shouldn’t be shy about asking them.
- Month 3. You'll feel confident giving a demo for prospects with support for answering questions. You’ll draft full proposals. You’ll have started work on executing your own vision for business development and will have independently identified new business leads.
- Month 6. You'll feel confident in giving full demos on your own. You’ll be able to complete a full proposal with minimal support. You will have moved new leads through the business pipeline. You’ll identify and implement improvements in the DevResults sales process.
- Year 1. You’re a key and trusted member of the team. Everyone knows they can count on you to get big things (and little things) done. You’re part of a watertight system to establish and support new client organizations.
Our hiring process
- After you submit your resume, you’ll hear back from us within one week.
- DevResults has a salary transparency policy and makes decisions about compensation based on a company-developed salary model. Once you provide detailed information about your experience and education, we provide a negotiation-less salary should you receive an offer.
- Initial interview (~60 minutes) to discuss your skills and experience. After the interview, you’ll hear back from us within one week.
- Half pairing day in person (~4 hours - paid). You’ll come prepared to demonstrate any software of your choosing as though to a potential client. You’ll complete a writing task, an editing task, and a QA session with the team. After the pairing you’ll hear back from us within one week.

- Flexible start date, from immediately through the end of Q1 2025
Why DevResults?
We’re a small team enjoying several years of sustained growth, but find ourselves at an inflection point. We want to continue building on the success of our platform, but more than that, position ourselves for rapid growth. That includes both ‘upwards’ with bigger clients such as government agencies and major international donors, as well as ‘outwards’ with forays into new markets as well as into smaller, more numerous organizations within our current market.
We primarily serve development and humanitarian professionals, but increasingly social good organizations in general. In order to make good on this broader vision, we need to broaden our team. That means new skills, different professional experiences, but also fresh ideas and unique perspectives that will add new energy and vitality to our team.
As much as we care about the work, we care more about those who do the work. We offer competitive benefits, strive to maintain and build upon an inclusive company culture, but most importantly, we have each others’ backs. We’re proud of what we’ve built so far and fully aware of where there is still work to be done. If you think you can add as much to our team as you can to our product, we can’t wait to talk to you!
