Organization Overview:

The New Florida Majority is an independent organization working to increase the voting and political power of marginalized and excluded constituencies toward an inclusive, equitable, and just Florida.

Candidate Description:

All our work focuses on building a healthy democracy, expanding the voting and political power of Black and Latinx constituencies. We are seeking someone who shares that same passion, and who is committed to racial, economic, and gender justice. You’re comfortable working independently and leading a team. You have demonstrated the ability to build trust on a team and manage projects to successful completion. You’re able to work effectively with diverse personalities and learning styles, and you have experience in creating and implementing effective working systems. Your life experience is an important skill, and so is your ability to swiftly prioritize and respond to changing circumstances. You are comfortable working with databases, design programs, and other digital media- as well as volunteers, organizers, donors, artists, and other humans.

Job Description:

The Development Director is responsible for working with the Executive Director and director-level colleagues in developing targets, strategies, plans, and systems to research, land, and manage institutional, individual, and small donors and other resources to support the mission of The New Florida Majority. They recruit and manage a small team of development professionals and volunteers to work alongside organization staff to identify, land, and sustain donors. They use a range of tactics including individual donor management, proposal writing, online appeals, membership drives, special projects, high-profile or small events, staff-led initiatives and other means to retain and grow the existing donor base and attract new donors. This position serves as a member of the Leadership Team.

Key Functions:

  • Develop strategic fundraising and resource plan and budget for the organization.
  • Recruit and manage a small team to retain and manage funder base, develop new targeted donors
  • Research and development of funding sources.
  • Diversifying funding sources to include small, mid, and large donors.
  • Work with communications team for regular donor communications.
  • Research prospective donors and strategies.
  • Develop strategic plans for projects and funding plan for them.
  • Operationalize donor targeting strategy.
  • Significantly grow the donor number and income of the organization.
  • Help develop non-monetary resources for the organization: volunteer programs, in kind donations, program related investments.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Individual must share a commitment to the organization's mission and have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in grant writing and development.
  • Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals; strong editing skills.
  • Previous experience with non-profit fundraising preferred.
  • Time-management and personal organization skills essential, able to manage staff and teams to meet deadlines.
  • Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors.
  • Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research.
  • Ability to work independently, yet collaboratively, according to goals of the organization.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interact with and understanding of persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Position will require the ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Employee responsible for having reliable transportation for work and occasional events/meetings.
