About Fresh is a non-profit that designs, engineers, and operates high-impact food care programs that people love. We are a mission-driven team of activists, systems thinkers, technologists, and strategic operators dedicated to a future where everyone has access to the food they need to be happy, healthy, and connected. About Fresh was founded in 2013 to address food insecurity across Boston neighborhoods. Our original program, Fresh Truck, operated converted school buses as mobile markets to get food into low-income, food insecure Boston neighborhoods. Operating Fresh Truck brought into focus the role of affordability as a barrier toward healthy eating. This experience drove us to develop a paper-based food prescription program that has evolved into our Fresh Connect payment technology. Since launching Fresh Connect, more than 20,000 people have used it to purchase more than $10 million worth of fresh produce.
