Senior Philanthropy Officer
GiveDirectly (GD) provides cash grants directly to people living in extreme poverty. About this role
Fundraising from high-net-worth individuals (HNWs) is the largest source of transfers to GiveDirectly’s recipients. This role will own and drive fundraising from a portfolio of 5 to 6-figure donors, with the capacity to move toward 7-figure gifts. Working with the Director of Philanthropy, the Senior Philanthropy Officer will design and implement excellent relationship management, stewardship, and acquisition strategies for their portfolio to meet ambitious and realistic targets.
The Senior Philanthropy Officer will:
- Be an excellent relationship and account manager, deeply understanding the motivations and intentions of their portfolio;
- Be entrepreneurial, driving donor engagement strategies proactively and thinking laterally and creatively about engagement;
- Have high accountability to both process and outcomes.
What you'll do:
- Directly manage a portfolio of HNW donors as a relationship manager and design and implement annual HNW donor and prospect engagement strategies
- Set donor strategies and execute asks to maximize giving from their donors
- Creatively package organization and country-level goals and activities for donors and report back on impact
Portfolio Management and Goal Setting
- Responsible for setting annual and multi-year goals for their portfolio by tracking commitments, driving realistic (and ideally ambitious) donor plans, and managing solicitations
- Owns a high value portfolio of 5-6 figure donors and lapsed and new prospects with 6 and 7-figure capacity and accountable for revenue goals/progress to targets
- Assist or lead moves management support for high-level leadership members portfolio through periodic meetings, strategy support, etc.
Internal Coordination and Project Management
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure donor pitches are highly aligned with programmatic, research, and finance needs
- Owns internal coordination and project management of proposals and pitches for their donors, with support from other members of the HNW team and/or partnerships teams as needed
What you'll bring:
- Required: 5+ years of direct fundraising experience with individual, family foundation, or institutional funders
- Demonstrated track record of securing, managing, or supporting strategy for HNW (5+ figure) relationships, with a preference for experience with securing 6-figure gifts
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with a bias toward brevity and directness (we are a 3-bullet org)

Reference checks (30 mins each)
*For some roles, second & third interviews are combined into a panel interview. If there are adjustments or variations on this process, those changes will be communicated during the first interview.
Venue: We conduct interviews over Google Meet with camera on (unless communicated otherwise).
