Position Title: Assistant, Associate, or Deputy Regional Director

Reports to: Regional Director, as part of the Engagement Team

Location: This position could be located where J Street has existing offices - DC, NYC, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles or San Francisco.

J Street focuses its work in three main arenas: (1) Public policy: Advocating and demonstrating support for pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy policies in Congress, with the Administration and in the media; (2) US politics: Endorsing and raising money for federal candidates who share J Street’s agenda; and (3) Jewish Community: Educating and raising awareness of balanced views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the organized Jewish community, in Jewish communal institutions and in the broader public.

Position Overview

This position plays a pivotal role within our organization, working closely with a dynamic team to drive fundraising initiatives, steward donor relationships, engage community leaders, and expand J Street's influence across a specific region. This position will offer a unique opportunity for a motivated individual to lead strategic engagement efforts and contribute to our organization's growth and impact.

The title, level, and payscale of the position could shift after reviewing relevant factors, including but not limited to skill sets; relevant experience; internal equity; and other business and organizational needs.

Key Responsibilities

Development:

  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with existing donors, ensuring continued and increased support for J Street's mission.
  • Identify and pursue new sources of funding through prospect research and development, fostering long-term growth and sustainability.
  • Strategize and execute high-impact donor events and gatherings to both raise funds and expand J Street's network of supporters.

Relationship Stewardship:

  • Identify and empower leaders within key cities in the region to advance J Street's mission and advocacy efforts.
  • Maximize, based on the interests of the Leader and on our organizational/chapter needs, how best to plug them into advocacy, political and communal work.

Chapter Stewardship:

  • Develop and support successful chapters within the region, collaborating with chapter leaders to implement strategic plans and programming.
  • Foster a sense of community within chapters through regular meetings and programming that aligns with J Street's organizational goals.

Required and Desired Skills and Characteristics

Applicants should have a demonstrated track record in the following required skills:

  • Commitment to J Street’s mission
  • Ability to clearly communicate J Street’s positions and policies as well as superb communication skills at large – written and verbal
  • Personally engaging and eager to work with leaders, donors, and staff; able to build and cultivate relationships with a broad range of community contacts
  • Background in fundraising and development work, making financial asks and organizing fundraising events
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, able to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently as well as in a team
  • Experience in donor relations, fundraising, or campaign work are highly desired.
  • Willingness to travel regionally and holding a valid driver’s license

Additional desired qualifications include:

  • Strong understanding of the political and Jewish communal landscape
  • Familiarity with the region you are applying for and the respective congressional delegations
  • Event management experience
  • Comfort with basic data management
  • Background on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and understanding how the conflict plays out in American politics

Physical Requirements

There are no extraordinary physical requirements for the performance of the essential functions of this position. J Street will make reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Travel and in-person meetings with leaders and donors are associated with the role.

Compensation

This is a full-time exempt position, with occasional work outside traditional work hours on an as-needed basis. The salary is $60,000-$95,000. Per J Street's Collective Bargaining Agreement, pay and title are commensurate with experience and according to pay bands outlined in our CBA.

J Street recognizes a staff bargaining unit affiliated with IFPTE Local 70, a union for non-profit workers. This position is included in J Street’s bargaining unit and is covered under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
