Position Title: Congressional Education Intern
Reports to: Evan DeWitt, Public Affairs and Policy Center Coordinator
Location: Washington, DC - In Office
Duration: 2-3 months
The Position
J Street is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic intern to join the Public Affairs team in Washington, D.C. This individual will play a key supporting role in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment – a great learning opportunity for a student interested in congressional affairs, policy, and advocacy work.
This intern will assist our team in day-to-day responsibilities to advance J Street's pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy legislative agenda, and can expect an inside look at J Street's congressional education and engagement work.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Track developments in Congress, U.S. policy, and the Middle East
- Support efforts to move target Members of Congress and candidates to more aligned positions
- Update our Congressional Delegation Briefing Book, including data, maps, and content for use on trips to Israel and the West Bank
- Maintain Salesforce tracking of Member-level meetings and write up meeting notes
- Update our diplomats' list and reach out to embassies for current contacts
- Support our Policy Center and Congressional Education work, including tracking Hill schedulers, monitoring Hill hearings, creating mail merges, and managing Zoom links and RSVPs for Hill briefings
- Complete other administrative tasks as needed
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a comfort and willingness to cold-call people on the phone
- Excellent organizational skills and careful attention to detail
- Strong relational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks and work quickly on a deadline
- Proficiency in using databases, internet research tools, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Interest in and/or knowledge of Congress, congressional operations, and U.S. politics
- Familiarity with J Street's issues, particularly US foreign policy on the Middle East, the US-Israel relationship, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and American Jewish communal affairs

The organization believes that preserving Israel’s Jewish and democratic character depends on achieving a two-state solution, resulting in a Palestinian state living alongside Israel in peace and security.
J Street focuses its work in three main areas: (1) Advocating and demonstrating support for pro-Israel, pro-peace policies in Congress, the media and the Jewish community; (2) Endorsing and raising money for federal candidates who share J Street’s agenda; and (3) Educating the public and raising awareness of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the two-state solution.

Compensation and Time Commitment
This part-time internship pays $18/hr. Interns can expect to work 10-15 hours per week in-person. Applicants are considered on a rolling basis. Please indicate in your cover letter which days and how many hours you are available.
