Movement Law Lab is building a sector of legal organizations and lawyers with the expertise and capacity to work alongside organized communities and progressive social movements fighting for social change. We incubate movement-law startups and provide them with mentorship, resources and coaching. We partner with social movements to help build legal infrastructure to support their goals. We train law students, lawyers and legal organizations on movement lawyering. We build capacity by generating resources, investing in visionary leaders, and educating philanthropy on movement lawyering. We host networks of movement lawyers to share lessons and replicable strategies, and jointly tackle struggles like immigration, criminal-justice reform, housing justice, and climate change. And we tell the stories of movement lawyers to shift the narrative about the function of law in society, and create a platform for the exchange of wisdom on movement-centered approaches to lawyering. Our goal is to launch, build, and steward a new generation of dynamic, collaborative and versatile legal organizations with the know-how and expertise to use law to to transform our world.
