ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Legal & Grants Operations Associate, you will serve as a critical bridge between legal compliance, finance, and grantmaking operations. You will be responsible for the day-to-day execution of legal functions, primarily focusing on contract administration and due diligence for our 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) grantmaking.

This role requires a blend of paralegal functions and a deep understanding of nonprofit compliance to support our mission of resourcing grassroots organizations. You will help build and maintain the infrastructure that supports a culture of compliance across the Finance, Operations, and Legal departments.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Legal & Contract Administration

  • Draft and revise contracts, subgrants, and vendor agreements based on established templates for review by counsel and leadership.

  • Manage the lifecycle of legal documents, ensuring third-party signatures are obtained and records are organized within our digital infrastructure.

  • Assist the Legal department with the preparation and filing of charitable solicitation registration reports and requirements of the appropriate state agencies.

  • Provide clear, actionable guidance to non-lawyers within the Finance and Operations teams regarding contracts including, but not limited to,language, obligations, timelines.

Grants Due Diligence & Compliance

  • Assist Legal in the creation of specialized processes and protocols as we build out our standalone 501(c)(3) grantmaking operations.

  • Work in collaboration with our Grants Manager in performing comprehensive legal due diligence for all potential grantmaking out of the 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) entities.

  • Verify grantee status, review organizational documents, and flag potential compliance risks for the Director of Grantmaking Legal Compliance.

  • Ensure consistent application of compliance standards across all grant-related communications and internal processes.

  • Manage and track reporting and document retention requirements for MVP and grantees, specifically ensuring timely and accurate reporting for expenditure responsibility grants made by the 501(c)(3).

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three to five years of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal, specifically within contract administration or nonprofit compliance.

  • Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal Certificate.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to explain complex legal requirements to non-legal staff.

  • Exceptional digital organization skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Remote work management experience and skills.

  • Demonstrated experience working with grassroots and social justice organizations.

SALARY & BENEFITS

Salary Range: $80,000.00-$100,000.00 (based on skills and experience)

Physical and Environmental Requirements
