GA Organizing Director

FLSA Status: Exempt

Work Location: Remote, but based in Atlanta, Georgia

Compensation: $92,700-96,934

The National Domestic Workers Alliance seeks an Organizing Director that will be responsible for leading the overall development of the domestic worker organizing project in Georgia, including developing and overseeing the base-building and organizing programs, providing visionary and strategic leadership alongside Georgia chapter leaders and the Care in Action Team. The Organizing Director will develop and implement powerful local campaigns that raise industry standards, support organizing staff, develop and maintain strategic alliances, as well as engage in national domestic worker movement building activities. The Georgia Organizing Director will also oversee the budget and administration of the local chapters, and participate in development efforts.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Grow base of domestic workers in Georgia and increase active membership in chapters

  • Work with chapter organizing staff to develop programmatic vision for chapters

  • Develop and oversee basebuilding plans, including setting goals and tactics , actively tracking progress, and holding staff accountable to reach goals

  • Develop vision for leadership development pipeline for members, including regular leadership building activities and paid leadership development fellowships

  • Cultivate relationships with institutions, community partners, employers, and other entities to support outreach to workers and increase worker contacts

  • Identify strategic locations for potential expansion of Georgia chapters

  • Develop, implement, and assess Georgia organizing and campaign strategy

    • Create strategic vision and plans for local and statewide campaigns in collaboration with Care in Action Civic Engagement Director

    • Work with Director of State Strategies and Organizing and Director of Care Policy to identify opportunities to advance standards for publicly-funded home care and child care work

    • Monitor the legislative session, support and participate in direct lobbying activities, coordinate with state lobbyist, develop relationships with relevant legislators and policymakers, and support the execution of issue advocacy campaigns

    • Support local staff in implementation of strategies

    • Build and maintain relationships with key organizations, institutions, and elected officials to grow community support for issues

    • Participate in and cultivate relevant coalitions, tables, and meetings to build advance campaigns forward

  • Supervise NDWA Georgia Organizing team and coordinate with Care in Action Georgia Team

    • Conduct team check-ins with staff organizers, review weekly workplans, and hold supervisees to their individual goals

    • Use data best practices and ensure team regularly updates and tracks work in data systems

    • Conduct weekly coordination check-in with Georgia Civic Engagement Director on shared NDWA + CiA plans

    • Hold joint NDWA + CiA team meetings with entire Georgia staff when necessary

  • Coordinate with We Dream in Black National team

    • Attend WeDIB annual organizing institute

    • Join monthly We DiB staff meetings

  • Participate in We DiB specific programming

  • Conduct administrative functions

    • Develop and track annual chapter budget

    • Work with development team on grant writing and reporting

    • Hire chapter staff in accordance with chapter development plan

    • Complete chapter work plans and reports in a timely manner

    • Complete monthly credit card reconciliations

    • Track lobbying activities and C3 compliance

  • Engage in broader NDWA and external spaces

    • Participate in staff meetings, staff study and retreats.

    • Serve as organizational spokesperson for Georgia’s chapter work and campaign activities locally and nationally

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrable ability to supervise organizing staff year round in order to provide direction for the work in Georgia in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures

  • 4 years of campaign experience, with legislative campaign experience preferred

  • Expertise in state level and local campaign strategy and implementation, particularly in the state of Georgia

  • Minimum 5 years experience in grassroots community organizing, with an emphasis on labor organizing, racial justice, immigrant rights, and/or base building

  • Familiarity with labor, racial justice, and other progressive movements in Georgia

  • Experience with building membership programs with strong emphasis on leadership development

  • Ability to forge strong relationships with relevant partners, groups, and leaders across the state.

  • Willingness to work long and unusual hours, including nights and weekends.

  • Willingness to travel and reliable access to a vehicle is required in order to attend events and partner meetings across the state

  • Strong understanding of messaging and communication grassroots and legislative campaigns

  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills to assess threats, opportunities, and recommend actionable solutions

  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage the technical aspects of a project such as paperwork, deadlines, etc.

  • Ability to work effectively with strong personalities, peers, public officials, and allies

  • Proficiency in Spanish is considered a major plus
