POSITION SUMMARY:

The National Domestic Workers Alliance (www.domesticworkers.org) organizes domestic workers in the United States for respect, recognition and labor standards. We work to guarantee labor protections for domestic workers by winning legislation at the state level, pushing for regulatory changes at the national level, through the International Labor Organization at the global level, and elevating domestic workers as key leaders in building a powerful movement for social and global justice. NDWA formed in 2007 at the US Social Forum and currently represents 75 local affiliates and chapters, plus thousands of individual workers across the country.

The Nevada Organizer will be responsible for deepening and expanding the Nevada organizing program. They will cultivate new worker contacts, primarily licensed in-home childcare providers, into members of the Nevada chapter, while supporting and building the leadership of the existing membership and engaging . In addition, they will engage them around care issues creating and promoting civic engagement and campaign opportunities.

PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Base building - 60%

    • Manage an ongoing outreach plan for recruiting new members, including canvassing in the local community, and outreach at events and worksites.

    • Conduct regular phone follow-ups, coordinate member-led group phone banking sessions for post-outreach follow-up with new contacts, and conduct event turnout to the general membership.

    • Identify workers who show potential for deep engagement and work with the Lead Organizer to implement leadership development activities.

    • Assist in the planning, coordination, and facilitation of monthly meetings and other membership activities as well as community engagement events.

    • Conduct membership recruitment presentations, support workers who want to join as NDWA members to register online, and help guide them up the ladder of engagement.

    • Cultivate new, and existing, relationships with community institutions and partners to increase effectiveness of outreach tactics.

    • Support managing digital outreach, digital communications, outreach data and event data with our current database systems.

    • Consistently track & enter all data from field work in a timely fashion including all interactions with new contacts as well as with existing members.

    • Track individual progress and contribute to overall chapter goals for recruitment, engagement, and leadership development.

  • Program and campaign implementation - 40%

    • Work with the existing Nevada team to plan for monthly membership meetings, other membership programming, and coordinate member participation in local and national worker gatherings and initiatives.

    • Coordinate and activate members into campaign activities and ensure broad participation from membership in ongoing campaign plans.

    • Support overall team efforts to execute outreach for all local and national campaigns, engagement plans, and rapid response mobilizations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Highly motivated individual with a passion for engaging communities

  • Ability to work some nights and weekends

  • 2-3+ years organizing experience (either paid or volunteer)

  • Strong relational skills and ability to connect, engage, and inspire community members

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Intermediate computer skills: (i.e. PowerPoint, Google Suite)

  • Demonstrated leadership experience

  • Hard-working and self-disciplined

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures

  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage time efficiently

  • Knowledge of issues affecting childcare and other domestic workers both nationally and locally

  • Experience with voter files such as VAN, LAN, or votebuilder, & online organizing tools such as Mobilize preferred

  • Fluency in Spanish is a bonus

  • Position requires regular travel throughout the state of Nevada (mostly concentrated in the greater Clark County area,) which will require reliable transportation. Occasional out-of-state travel will be required as well.

  • Position Hours: 40 hours per week. Position requires some evening and weekend hours and the schedule will vary some from week to week with as much flexibility as the work allows. Occasional overtime will be required during peak work periods.
