Job Title: Care in Action (CiA) Canvasser

Work Location: South Carolina office (Columbia based canvassers) with a few remote positions for Orangeburg based canvassers

Start Date: Sept 14, 2026

POSITION SUMMARY:

Care in Action builds durable political power for working-class women of color, domestic workers, and the broader care constituency. Over seven years, we've driven turnout and victories in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia by investing in women of color's leadership, making strategic electoral endorsements, and organizing year-round — centering the trust and cultural fluency that most campaigns overlook.

Canvassers play a critical role in expanding the reach of the organization and growing our contacts and members. Canvassers will engage new contacts through door to door canvassing and outreach at targeted sites, community events, and over the phone. Canvassers will provide pertinent election information to voters to increase participation, and conduct conversations to identify care needs, and topline care and affordability issues. Through their efforts, they will also identify new care worker and recipient contacts, and funnel them into our ladder of engagement to be recruited as members, and participate in campaign activities and chapter programs and events.

PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Canvass neighborhoods, knocking on doors, having in-person conversations, and phone/ text conversations with residents about their health care, child care, elder care or other care needs and affordability challenges

  • Conduct targeted outreach to community centers, gatherings and institutions to connect with care workers, consumers and/or families with care needs

  • Identify contacts and potential new members to bring into the organization

  • Conduct regular follow up and 1-on-1 conversations with new contacts to activate them and move them into action

  • Conduct calls and texts to contacts to mobilize for upcoming programs and events

  • Track canvassing work and interactions through the VAN and any other daily recording forms

  • Participate in regular debriefs to share field insights, help track progress towards goals, and proactively work through challenges

  • Track time and submit timesheet on a regular basis

  • Participate in daily check-ins with your supervisor at the beginning of each shift worked

  • Represent the organization(s) professionally and effectively to the public

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Have access to a car with car insurance (for regular use for your work with mileage provided) and smartphone and reliable internet access

  • Be relational and able to engage with care workers, consumers and community members from diverse backgrounds

  • Be willing to conduct outreach in-person as assigned on a weekly basis

  • Be willing to conduct phone banking as assigned

  • Work well independently and towards a team goal

  • Diligently plans ahead and completes assignments

  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and outgoing personality

  • Be goal-oriented, a problem solver, punctual, organized, and have a positive attitude
